On a classic policy they don't take your existing no claims discount into account, when calculating your premium either. On the upside that means that you can use any discount you have on another car/policy, should your mini be a second car.

footman james kindly gave me useless piece of paper stating that i had 1 years claim free diring with them , not a certificate for 3 years no claims ( 2 fron previous and 1 from them ) .

Apparently my policy didnt have the entitlement of earning additional no claims accumilation , my fault for not reading the 30+ pages they sent me when i started my policy but you live and learn - dont take what is said on the phone as gospel !!!

Mixed bag it would seem... just insured SirD with them for £305 all in... no modifications built 2000, took 6 note of 6 years no claims. Increasing the excess from the standard £250 however doesn't change the premium at all.

Same fell into the trap of the no clames bonus!
Also the lure of the Cheep inshurence (£800) for the first year then dont give a toss about the next year!!!!!!
So now my quote has gone from £800 to £2200 for a years clean driving?! Go figure.
Looks like its the bus for me for the next year!? Thanks for nothing Footman James.

(Adrian Flux quoted me £1999.69 for next year) At least I get my NCB!

Pissed off.

Hi

yes my son has just had the letter stating they won't insure him on the unmodified 1979 998 for another year as he's under 21 (he's 18). They gave me a number for Aeon. I rang and after a good 10 mins of answering all of the questions they came up with a quote of £5350 - Last years premium was £650 !

This issue with Footman James has been discussed here a lot over the last few months. From what I understand, the underwriter that Footman James use for most of their classic policies (Equity Red Star), has recently changed their terms to exclude younger drivers. Footman James do appear to be trying to source an alternative underwriter willing to insure under 21's, but at the end of the day they are just a specialist broker, (not an underwriting insurer), therefore they can only supply you with the insurance products that are actually out there.

So am I correct in thinking that Footman James won't renew my policy? Been with them nearly a year and will be 19 by the time the insurance is up, so I'm guessing they'll just flat out refuse to insure me again?

That really depends on when your renewal is due, although yes that is certainly the case at the moment.

As I mentioned above, it's not actually Footman James that are refusing to insure under 21's at the moment though. It's the underwriter "Equity Red Star" that Footman James use for most of their classic policies, that is no longer providing cover to under 21's. Younger drivers are however a significant part of Footman James business though, so they are currently trying to source an alternative underwriter that will provide classic policy cover to under 21's, if they manage to do that before your renewal date, then you might be in luck.

My renewal would be the end of April, I think about the 29th. I heard there are others classic insurers that still do young drivers, so I'll see if I can get a reasonable quote from them

Yeah If you're a younger driver, I think it's very much a case of "watch this space" when it comes to Footman James.
