Hi guys/gals.
Im looking into jazzing up my engine and eng bay, i.e painting the block, head and bell crank housing, chroming(or achiving a chrome look) the rocker cover ecu and such like, Swapping HT leads for colour coded silicon, colour coded heatshrink for my loom. And maybe painting the bay itself.
Any ideas on cost/manhours?
Cheers

most of what you want to do can be done by yourself.
Very easy things to do to be honest.
not sure on timescales

to acheive the best finish you can remove the engine and do each part seperately or just remove what you need like i did and paint it.
if you where going to do the actual bay then of course the engine out would be essential.
roughly though i would say something like this would be adequate
if you removed the engine for example on a saturday
cleaned / degreased/ paint stripped ( if neccasary) and dissassembled parts sunday
first coats of paint monday
second coats tuesday
wiring loom wednesday
then rebuild the whole lot thursday
so thats about 6 days.
as for materials you would need engine paint,
paint for the engine bay.
the wiring loom would take a while but you can get this stuff

i wouldnt get parts chromed as you have to keep them clean all the time, but if you do want to, then i would just by a new chrome rocker cover for how little they cost as chroming components can be expensive.
instead of chroming i just sprayed parts like the ecu, alternator etc...
also redoing little parts can make a difference like respraying the filler cap or air filter housing. just makes it all look newer. once it is clean and done if you keep it clean it will look godd for ages .
