I had a new exhaust fitted by one of the exhaust chains over xmas. The top bracket on the manifold has been working loose over the last few weeks, making more and more noise. Now, I was ordering some service parts (dizzy cap, points, etc.) from dsnclassics, so I took the opportunity of spending a couple of extra quid on a 2-bold type heavier duty exhaust bracket for the manifold. The whole lot turned up yesterday, so in the dark last night, I unbolted the old bracket and began fitting the new.
An hour or so later, and lots of cussing, bashed fingers and oily hands, I'd got it on - but not very well. The drive to work this morning was a pain-in-the-arse. I couldn't get any proper power, I had to pull the choke out to accelerate up hills and it was popping, chugging and kangarooing down the road. I drive 10 miles to work.
So my confession is that I've fitted the exhaust bracket badly. I'd like to publicly apologise to my poor mini, as I might have hurt her.
Anyway, now she's parked at Surf Blue garage in Eastwood who are very good at this kind of thing, and who I'm likely to be very grateful to in a few hours time.
My confession
