Roller Painting With Hammerite

I have to say that one painted with dulux turned out really good. Did you use primer? If do which?
I am going to use this primer (2 coats). Good or bad? I am going to roll the primer on aswell as the main paint.

Well while all of the metal work was being done it painted with screwfix red oxide and a brush more to stop it rusing again. But when it came to painting the outside that was sanded back and then sprayed over with simoniz red oxide cans, as you can get them in cheap bulk deals on ebay.
Thing is, just because it's rollered it still needs the same ammount of prep as it would need with spraying. The better the panels look in primer the better and smoother the top coat will look.

Unfortunately, I don't see there being another one for quite a while.

I'm really impressed. What results are to be expected if auto paint is rollered on? Rustoleum can't be tinted, correct?

Rustoleum comes in 72,000 different shades so I think theres a good choice of colours They can make up different colours for you.

I wouldn't bother with b&q, a roller plus tray and a pack of 5 4" foam roller heads only comes to £4.50 from screwfix.

Wow this is such an interesting thread.....I read somewhere and for the life of me i cant remember where but professional coach painters use and recommend ther trade Dulux hi gloss.

All of the cars either rollered or sprayed look excellent and certainly value for money.

Right off to Dulux trade supplies now lol damn I need to paint my mini !!

Interesting options available here, I'm about to start roller / spraying with an alternative paint (rusto / interlux / blakes) but now am considering the dulex approach. How is it holding up to the weather?

The car is a daily and durability is as important as finish.

I've heard very good things about brightside by interlux but they've discontinued it, Hempel brilliant gloss seems an alternative but for the cost I'd be willing to give Dulux a bash if it's durable enough.

Any info would be great!

Seems the Dulux was rollered without thining...what do yo all recken to spraying dulux with a spraystation with 1.5mm needle ( does celly fine) thin with thinners or white sprirt ?

Also have a 1.0 mm needle that can be used....options are 1.0 1.5 and i think 2.0 for the Earlex Spraystation. I have sprayed filler primer and that goes on a treat witht the 1.5 no runs or anything etc. Have sprayed metallic orange (on a oug GTi) went on fine but a tiny bit of ornage peel. The orange4 paint was a made up batch form halfords so not exactly sure what "type" of paing it was.

I have just bought some normal black gloss paint and will spray a test panel (NOT DULUX) testing using Thinners then using White Spirit to see how things work out on a test piece of metal (Old washing machine side) of may even just do my bonnet!!!

I will be using a variety of prinmers:

1. Normal filler primer
2. Red Oxide
3. Normal Undercoat that you would normally use with gloss paint!

I just rollered the underside of my floor with Rustoleum Combi-color & sponge type rollers. It went on really well, I used a brush in the tight places to get the paint in there then rolled over it to smooth it out.

I have got the rollers but really feel the need to use my sprayer lol !!!

Likewise BM, have sprayed plenty of bikes in the past but lack the space to do the car. Plus given the cost of celly / 2k a lower priced, durable alternative for a daily drive is highly appealing.

Rollering was my first plan but given the drying times outdoors I'm sure the UK has the summer for it, very interested to hear your results.

And to hear about the durability / thinning potential for dulux. Might have to experiement myself with some spare panels!
