Hi guys, we have a genuine mini jet black, was wondering what the jet blacks sell like as i do not see them come up very often. Havent got a pic right now but i'm not asking what my one is worth i just want to know are they worth more than a standared mini (not a special addition mini) Cheers

But they are a 'special edition' mini or to be more precise they are a 'limited edition'.

3000 were made 1000 for the UK market. The value of them may not be alot higher at the moment than a standard mini BUT it will be one day

They were also made during one of the eras most prone to rotting!!

I've seen some hugely rotten jet blacks, which can add to the rarity as well.

They were released along side the "red hot" They are getting quiet rare now so this will bump the value up providing it is in good condition.

But they will only attract higher values as a limited edition if they are in completely original condition... No point trying to sell it as a jet black if it has 13" wheels, 1380 engine, sportpack arches, painted in Kawazaki green and completely stripped out with two bucket seats.

Nah its also got and body kit and neons !!!! Haha jokes it's all bog standared. I just need to find a new grille for it as someone has cut 2 holes in the bottom (think they must of had spot lights or something) and the hubcaps are missing, apart from that it's standared. But when i sell it i'll make sure i get some new ones and also a grille.

I've got a jet black and I've changed mine quite a bit. However, I'm planning on keeping it for a good few years and if I do decide to sell it, I'm going to turn it back into an original jet black as I kept all the standard parts

thats what i do with all my minis, i had a sidewalk and the interior is well nasty......kept it tho and refitted before selling as some people like that.

also it helps if you have space to store the parts but id recommend keeping them and as "guess-works" says, LE's are worth more when there original.

Jet Blacks do seem to be one of the more popular 80s limited editions. My son had been desperate for a Jet Black for a few years and my dad bought him one 18 months ago. It was low mileage and completely standard, original radio, trim in excellent condition, in fact I cannot think of anything on his Jet Black that isn’t standard. It cost a small fortune and I would never have paid that much if I was buying it, but then again, I wouldn’t really want a Jet Black. However, in the 18 months since he bought it, I have not seen one for sale in such good, standard condition. The only better standard Jet Black that I have seen out and about is Claire Serrell’s, but that is a nut and bolt restoration and is outstanding. My son’s Jet Black is a great Mini, he loves it to bits, so I guess paying over a grand more than I would have for it with hindsight isn't as painful as it was then!

He has since collected all the brochures for it, press photos ect and has found the cassette tape that was given away if you test drove either a Red Hot or Jet Black and the Sony Walkman you were given if you bought either model. That is unused and still in the original packaging.

Looks really smart and clean !!!! Makes me want to get are one done and on the road now but one project at a time. I'm sure he's itching to get on the road with it. I remember waiting to drive mine and doing bits and peices to it before i was old enough to drive it on the road. Me and my Mum was out at midnight on my 17th birthday with my L plates on going for my first drive lol.

Took some pic's of are jet black today. Well what you can see of it ( looks a bit sorry for itself )
