Just a question related to the stickers but does anyone know how they avoid copyright issues? Or do they just ignore? I would hate to upset BMW or Porsche by doing these. Just wondering if anyone knows?

Not noticed this had been updated recently, cracking thread you have. A truly great looking car and some nice photography, kinda makes me want to cut a hole in the roof of my mini :/

Sorry for the sort of thread hijack. DingDong is producing and selling trademarks for profit which I assume is without permission therefore illegal, just wondering how he gets away with it? They are great stickers by the way.

I did think about this, that and how they found all of these vintage transfers. I have no idea about the legalities though, and nothing is mentioned in their website.

They do make quality products though and I've been very pleased with them. Just to say I have no affiliation with them bar being a customer.

Cheers! Was probably the scariest part of the resto - plunging a stanley knife through my freshly installed headlining! Felt a bit weird doing that......

Cheers! Over the years I've managed to un-molest it by reverting back to a lot of the original parts (which I've been lucky to get hold of over the years) - really pleased with the end result.  Not a photographer by trade, just a keen amateur.  Would like to make some money from it.....but I'd be worried that I'd stop enjoying photography if it turned into a job.

Ahh...right - I see what you mean.  Good question - they are making money from trademarks/brands that still exist.  I can remember a lot of panic around the time of BMW taking over the MINI brand - people were worried that BMW would come after (classic mini) clubs and businesses to stop them using the Mini name.  Not sure anything came of it though. With regards to the stickers & companies like BMW & Porsche - to be honest it's probably not having an adverse affect on their businesses, so probably not worth them pursuing.  You could even look on it as good advertising (maybe?)  ;D

Got this through the post - been waiting quite a while to buy one and one came up on eBay recently and a slightly reasonable price so I snapped it up.

Amazing what things were considered as luxuries then - "streamlined G.T. stripes down either side of the body" - well you wouldn't want those non-streamlined chunky stripes would you!?

The best statement on the inside of the brochure:  "The Mini 1275GT. More than a substitute for the Mini Cooper".  Is it just me or does that sound a bit like an apology. "Sorry we got rid of the Cooper, but this is almost as good"  Phrasing that would never make it onto a piece of marketing literature nowadays I'm guessing.

Imagine the delight of the new owner discovering a rev counter! And door to door carpets.......such luxury! (I'm guessing the press car in the shot had been hoovered before the photoshoot - unlike mine....)

Just had a delivery from Royal Mail.....a pair of chromed eyeballs! I've been looking for a pair of these for aaaaaagges, and it turns out they're quite rare!

So I decided to make my own.  I dismantled a set of eyeball vents to get the "ball" part out of the middle and then sent them off to be vacuum metalised.  Wasn't particularly cheap but based on what a pair of these vents sold for recently and how rare they are anyway I decided to put my hand in my pocket and get them done.

I've rebuilt one to see what it looks like - the guy who plated them masked off the central bore so everything goes back together as it should (the metalising adds a v. small thickness to the surfaces that are plated).

Chuffed. to. bits.

Will add some photos when they're installed in the car.

Yep - will send you details later.

Got them rebuilt and installed in the car last night.  Really pleased with these - my car would've had them from new and I don't think BL fitted them for long before reverting to black plastic.

Looking at the photo below it's becoming clear that maybe the steering column bracket should be painted black.....it sort of stands out like a sore thumb in the mass of black that is the rest of the dash!.

Taking detail photos is a good way to highlight which bits of your car need attention.  The join between the carpet, lower dash rail and dash cards has bugged me for ages - really untidy! Also the door handle looks really chivved and the screw is really rusty...... On the to-do list!

Cheers Steely, much appreciated! :)

Not much work done on the old girl......been too busy with the house renovation.......boooooooo!

Anyway, rolled her out in the sunshine, filled up a headlight with Lindt chocolate eggs and took some pics for the April photo competition.

Here's one of the better shots......not sure the eggs are coming out in a hurry  :-|

As part of the lead up to the London to Brighton run on Sunday I've had a couple of late nights trying to get the old girl sorted with regards to cooling.

When I restored the shell I never replaced the rotten radiator tunnel that sits on the inner wing and guides the hot air out through the wing vents.  I had intended to run a front mounted rad and my engine sits slightly further forward for extra turbo clearance, which is why I never replaced it.

Anyways - it's been bugging me for a while - it must be there for a reason and must have an effect on the efficiency of the cooling system so I decided to re-instate it this week.

Dug out a sheet of ally and the tin snips, made a card template and got cracking with the snips and the rivet gun.

It's a bit heath-robinson but I'm quite digging the riveted look.

Also fitted a new rocker cover to replace the standard metro one.

Should make it more efficient.
What the cut out for in the air intake behind the grille?
