Should make it more efficient.
What the cut out for in the air intake behind the grille?

Well spotted.  I was originally going to run a front mounted rad and the pipe routing of the top hose onto the thermostat ran straight through the air intake.  I still wanted the fresh air feed to the cabin so I decided to allow the 2 items to share the same space.  ;-)

Need a new one now as it looks a little daft....

I actually made some time to work on/drive the mini last week, mainly down to being asked to drive one of my friends around on his stag weekend.  We both had minis back in the late nineties and it'd been a few years since he'd been in one.

I had a few jobs that I wanted to do to improve the car before his stag weekend and true to form I left it to the last minute, meaning a few late nights in the days leading up to last weekend.

First up - Modified and fitted an ultimate engine steady that I bought on TMF - wish I'd done this ages ago - everything feels so much more secure when getting on the power - has certainly reduced the clunks and clonks coming from the 'bay

Fitted new air ducting (colour coded for extra bhp  ;-) ) and fitted the air filter to the slam panel - it had been sort of floating about in the engine bay beforehand

And played around with grille/badge options.

Decided to shave the paint off the upper and lower ribs on the grille to make it a bit more of a factory finish and trialled it with/without badge.

So - badge or no badge? Which looks better? (I know which I prefer.....)

Also got round to fitting the secondhand top dash rail that I bought recently from a local guy via eBay. Under all the dust and grime was hiding an immaculate dash rail!

Really pleased with how my interior is starting to shape up.  Seats are now letting it down though - need some new covers!

I have a clubman shell at the mo, in real bad shape, I may have missed something on your thread but it looks like you cut off parts of the inner wing, what did you replace still a welded on front is it not.

Thanks in advance :highfive:

Cheers bud - it's been a long time in the making but I'm finally making the most of the hard work.  It's nice to be able to start fixing some of the minor issues and start refining the car a bit (concentrating on the details)

My car originally had a body kit and had been stood out on someones driveway for a long time unused - as a result the front end was pretty rusty.  I cut it all back and welded in some replacement inner wings (from a donor car) & replacement front end to get it back to original spec.

Not sure I'm really keen on the centre badge......I've run with it for a bit but I prefer it without I think (which is a shame 'because I like the originality of the rest of the car).  Might be because my badge doesn't have the blue bits in it anymore - it's black and chrome to match the grille.

It defintely needs the blue inserts to set it off. I'm actually running an early grill with the blue centre badge now since my late grill got ruined, although without a GT badge.

I really like the look.

So tax discs are now a thing of the past......thought it'd be a good opportunity to make a retro-disc, more suited to the era of when my car was born ;)

I likey.

I was playing around with the idea, but couldn't decide whether to go for the month and year my car was made, registered, or what it's actual first tax disc would have been!

Did you decide on the grill badge in the end?

Stuck without the badge for the time being - but it's a close run thing.  Badgeless is edging it for me at the mo but that may change in the future.

For the tax disc I just went with a disc from '71 which would've been the first year that the first disc would've expired (and I happened to find a decent res. picture online of a Dec 71 disc that I could modify).
