I remember when this was commonplace, now It's a different story, dvla and vosa are cracking down.

Log book specials annnoy me now and a v5 that obviously doesn't belong to the car just destroys its value in my eyes.

This thread has gone completely off topic!

In answer to the OP, its maybe worth 500 quidish!

Stick it on ebay with lots of photos and someone will hopefully buy it and restore it!

Once you've sold the shell and the vehicle is no longer registered in your name then its no longer your responsibility! You cannot control what someone decides to do with it!

It might also be called aiding & abetting, so don't think you'd be exempt of all responsibility.

Because they are willing to pay their share to have roads to drive on, or just for the peace of mind, in knowing there's no risk of having your car impounded?

So I sell my 1983 austin mayfair on eBay for 250 quid, the buyer uses its vin and V5c to put onto another vehicle, this is beyond my control! To be charged with aiding and abetting a criminal the criminal justice system needs to be able to prove intent! Stop scaremongering!

Registering a post 72 car with a pre 73 identity isn't simply avoiding paying tax when you don't have to, it's committing fraud! It's knowingly and intentionally claiming something that your're not entitled to for your own gains and then expecting everyone else to pick up the bill for you. At the end of the day the government has to a collect as certain level of tax revenue from somewhere, and for all that revenue that's lost by people committing tax fraud, the rest of us then have to pay out more to compensate. So if you do this, you are no better than a benefit cheat in my opinion.

All that aside though, as I mentioned earlier, why on earth would anyone in their right mind risk having their car seized and crushed, (not to mention a criminal prosecution/record that would seriously hamper their future employment and credit rating) just to save themselves £135 per year?? I mean if it meant that you were pulling off a major scam that saved you many, many thousands, then maybe I could understand the appeal, but for just £135 a year it's like committing an armed robbery in order to steal pocket change!

I can't believe people are still going on about this. I can't count how many times I've read this on here...

Obviously stealing a car is bad.. But somebody trying to sell a LEGIT car and v5?!

Telling the op not to sell his FUBAR mk1 because it promotes stealing..

Is like telling somebody not to sell their ferrari because it promotes speeding.

At the end of the day people are concerned that the sale of the car and its V5 will maybe lead to another ringer.

There are unfortunately a lot of people out there that will buck the system and use the V5 to illegally turn a non tax exempt car into a tax exempt car and then sell it on.

How would you like it IF you bought a car that was being sold as tax exempt and due to your lack of knowledge about tax exempt cars and what a car of the era should have on it, was to pay an extra premium on its buying price and it turned out to be a more modern car?? Then for whatever reason the DVLA finds out said car is not tax exempt, revokes its tax exempt status leaving you out of pocket??? Not a good feeling being sold a pup and leaving you potentially out of pocket.

Now this may not happen at all, somebody may be willing to pay for a brand new shell to do it all properly but unless you have deep pockets then not many folk will have the best part of £5K just for a shell then several more thousands to do the rest hence the temptation to do it illegally.

If they took the V5 and left the car there'd be a strong case to say you'd be guilty of wilful ignorance.
However, I actually hope a seller would consider acting responsibly without the threat of the law.

There's no issue with selling Minis in any condition. Wouldn't you ask why the OP finds it necessary to mention the V5 if their intent is to sell the whole car to be restored?

A car with a V5 is always worth more in my eyes than one without!

When did I mention only selling the V5?
