Just thought I’d make a thread showing the dashboard and centre console I made for the mini!

It’s basically L-shaped steel welded in various places inside the front of the mini, nuts welded to these and MDF bolted on with some nice stainless allen bolts :-)

The top section has a small push button for the hazard lights and the two heater vents for the demisting. It’s getting covered in black faux suede

The main part has been carbon fibre vinyl wrapped, and has an 8” touch screen entertainment/satnav, a 5” auxiliary screen with all engine bits on and a small digital speedometer/odometer thing.
5 warning lights (2 indicator, headlights, mainbeam and brake fluid low warning)
3 usb charging ports which also function as usb otg/host ports for the main screen allowing you to plug things in like game controllers, usb pens, keyboards etc
It has an external gps antenna which will be mounted under my fibreglass bonnet
I’ve wired the orange halo button above the usb’s into the tablet to turn the screen on and off
The glove box has no handle, you just press the bottom of it and it flips open :)

The lower part has also been carbon wrapped and has 10 mini toggle switches on it and a red halo button
The sides to this bit will also be wrapped in faux suede
Inside this sits the heater blower (from a Peugeot 106 (perfect fit!!)) and a heater matrix from a mini heater
Air is directed up to the windscreen vents and down to the driver and passenger foot wells, and can either be hot or cold

:D

I just need to wrap the suede bits, make the fuel gauge hole slightly larger and fit it, fit he hazard switch and tidy up the vinyl in the corners of the screens :)

Time for pictures…… :shifty:

It's wired up with lots of connectors on the back so it can all be removed very easily :) 8 bolts, 10 connectors and the dash comes off!

yeah its drawn on a poster tube cap, I have the actual gauge (its on one of the pics) but haven't fitted it yet :-)

Whats the 8" screen running? is it a mini pc running android or something?

I was going to do something similer with a Raspberry Pi, and 8" screen for entertainment purposes but never got around to it, now I am tempted again :P and how much roughly for the carputer bit, so the satnav, media player thingy?

It's an android tablet, running ICS 4.0.4! It uses a Bluetooth GPS which is hidden behind the dash and has the charger, usb hub and audio out all connected behind the dash.

Here is the one I bought, It's a Sanei N83. http://www.amazon.co...tag=flatwave-20

One thing I wish I'd done is bought a slightly cheaper tablet without bluetooth (£60 ish) as I am using a Bluetooth dongle in the tablet anyway because of the custom rom I'm using!

Ahh that makes a lot of sense and a lot less wiring/ easier to use, setup install than a seperate little pc! may have to look into this when I have the funds available!

Yeah it's nice and simple! I was going to do a pc too, but the price of a decent touch screen was almost as much as the tablet! You should do one, it's great :D
