so what are peoples thoughts on selling shells with no id ?

we do as a forum not allow v5's to be sold but is this enough or should we stop the possible sale of stolen shells ?

But isn't selling a shell with no ID illegal? If so it shouldn't be allowed.

I'm not taking it as a joke, I am mega paranoid about mine now...
You know everyone with a mini has some crazy connection with it and to have it stolen would be horrible!!!

I just like to stay in high spirits at the worst of times!!
It's so hard to recognise stolen parts, wheels are the main things I suppose, certain marks only you know they had cause you remember hitting the sodding curb or whatever!!

if your really that worried about your minis being stolen why not do something about it that you can control

only buy new parts and don't buy second hand

if there was no market the minis wouldn't go missing

Its metal at the end of the day.. As long as the i.d isn't then used to clone or evaid tax on a newer shell

i can see bungle's piont but new parts are ******* . i brought loads of new parts for the sons rebuild and ended up buying or repairing used parts
some parts are not out out there new so used is the only option.
the ones goin missing in brum cant be a coincidence though but how come no one sees any of the bits for sale on ebay, gumtree and the like
a map of where the cars have gone missing would be a nice start so we can see where its all going on

Do you really think that this would make much of a difference? There are a fair amount of mini owners who do not come on here/care about stolen minis as long as it is not theirs.
Also, this would mean prices come down, tempting people further into buying cheaper spares which may be stolen.

For the record, I think this is a bad idea as it will advertise the fact that there is a high demand for stealing mini's, which will make opportunistic people take it up. Having said that, fair play for trying to do something about it.

I saw a low loader in the carpark outside my house the other day (i live at work). It was next to my mini so I went out there with a baseball bat to ask him what he wanted. Turned out it he was just looking for a broken down car haha.

I think this is a good idea. I'm fairly paranoid about mine despite living in an area of essex with a very low car theft rate and being a busy main road.

Thats why mine is blocked in with another car, once mine starts moving about I'll have to think fo some better theft deterrents.

And you are basing this on? If this is an article you have read please send me the link. It is impossible to register a right hand drive car in Poland, hence the price of right hand drive cars is considerably lower. The Mini scene is small with the exception of one or two suppliers who don't deal in second hand parts.

If you were to do the conversion it would cost you for and engineers report, a inspection similar to the SVA and inflated registration cost, that's before you get robbed by the insurance company for having a car that wasn't as it left the factory, even though they were available in left hand drive. I went through all of this with my other classic car which I brought with me from the UK. The only exception is if you can have the car registered as a historic vehicle, again a long drawn out process. Just because your car is a certain age doesn't qualify it for historical status, it's down to the engineer who inspects it. So in all a lot of hassle and expense.

I keep a regular eye on cars for sale, never seen more than a dozen at any given time and they take a long time to sell. Any that I have looked at have had a left hand drive vin number. Most of the Minis in Poland come from Germany and France and are prodominently late 80's onward.
