In the picture above you will see the tray fitted with one of the central oil pickups I supply, it will also work with a standard pickup. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee every style of pickup will be a dirrect fit as there are some oddly shaped imported pipes which may require fettling.... not to mention making sure the conrods miss them.

Can you list / describe etc the actual known benifits from this?

I'd like it, but if it makes nearly no difference at all then it's not worth the effort

Stops splashback on the crank which gives you a bit a bhp straining (not my words so dont quote me on this 100%)

Really?!? So you loose about .5 hP!! And you get rid of the oil feed to the small ends that are splash feed only!

A bit of a google will bring up all sorts about the benefits of a baffle tray or windage tray and to some extent crank scrapers, but I think the most critical benefit of this piece of equipment is a barrier which is created between the rotational components of the gearbox and the rotational components of the engine..

I cannot say for definite that there is any performance gain, or flip side, reduction in loss, but what seems logical to me is if you can reduce the amount of oil which is being thrown up into the crank from the transmission and manage the oil which is being returned to the sump from the crank and oil pressure relief valve there must be some form of benefit, even if it's just one of making the oil work in the places it's needed rather than getting thrown around unnecessarily.

And to make comments about parts which are not directly fed by oil galleries... why don't all engines which don't have a gearbox in the sump, pretty much every engine except the transverse A series (and some E series ) have some method of 'throwing' oil up from the sump into the crank case.... especially when you consider the A series engine is also used in an inline configuration with a standard sump pan in the midget, moggie minor and plenty of other BMC/Leyland and Austin vehicles.

Thanks for that:). It's interesting, I guess it means that crank mods such as blading is then in-necessary so then the crank can be modded for general performance instead of counteracting oil! :P

I don't think in anyway that it reduces the effects of blading, wedging or any other crank modification.

I believe there's more to these mods than any interaction with oil in the sump will account for.

no bud i didnt say it would reduce the effects of blading, wedging or any other crank modifications.

what i meant was that there is now no need to blade the crank! you blade a crank to help the crank rotate through the oil thats being chucked around. with this windage tray fitted, there is no oil being thrown around, so there is no need for blading! therefore the crank mods can be focussed on making it perform better ie better counterweighting etc

Yes is almost makes knife edging seem pointless.

I dont think, these days many race engine builders even.do it anymore, probably Because they're dry-sump

Doing some final clearance testing has resulted in a few more modifications to the trays but needed some drastic measures to be sure....

About 1/2 a dozen cutting disks, 1 lump hammer and about 15 minutes.

Took longer to actually clean it afterwards....

And it was nothing that was going to get used by me.... see I have found a use for auto blocks ! lol :D
