hi guys
just put a 1275 engine in the car..... the problem i have( I THINK) is that the block temp is getting DAMM hot quiet quickly... more than normal i think. could the timming be out to cause this huge raise in temp.
as the oil pressure light stay's on but the heat is more of the prob ar are they related.
pepe..... thanks in advance

Themostat is NEVER always open!
Its what controls the temp of your engine!
You know if your looking the engine, you know the silver thing on the right handside of the Head, with a hose sticking out of it going into the rad... thats where the 'stat is....
Whip the bolts off (Be careful not to break them!) and just have a lookie, you'll need a freash gasket too by the way! If its working the stat should be closed.
There was a way of testing stats by placing them into hot water and looking to see if they opened, but the modern wax type tend not to like this so much, and packing once this test is done to them! or the way you can test it, is by placing into cold water and heating it up... like on a hob or something, once it opens (if it opens) you know its working! ( remember to have it on a bit of string or wire, or have some very long nosed pilers!) once its opened remove from the water, and it'll close back up. then after safe in the knowledge that its working, put back into the engine (with a freash gasket), with a 50/50 antifreze and water mixture, and away u go.

Why why why why why are you running an engine with the low oil pressure light constantly on? Unless you know that the oil pressure light is on for another reason the total lack of oil pressure in your engine is probably the cause of all the excess heat, it's a thing called friction and if that's where the heat is coming from it's destroying and has probably already destroyed your engine.

If the engine was fine before I'd bet my money on an airlock in the system when plumbing the new engine into your cooling and heater system. Especially as you say you have an always open stat system, then if anything, your block should take too LONG to warm up since water is always circulating. If it gets hot quickly i'm inclined to think you have an airlock in the cooling system not allowing any water to circulate and cool the block.

hes saying he has a old skool race type blanking sleve which replaces the stat and leaves the coolant to flow from start. Have a look on minispares if u dont know what it is.
you need to find out whats going on with the oil, if there is no pressure at all then the engine would be toast by now. If the timing is out then it could cause excessive overheating, but i have to admit i'd be looking at the oil pressure first before faffing with running problems.

Did you refit the plug next to the dizzy? This may be the oil pressure problem. If you want to have another look tomorrow give me a bell as i'll be aloud out again tommorow!
