Making the crxframe and the mini shell one piece by making some sheet metal in the right shape

Foto550-3JIPBISA.jpg

Foto550-83LIXVRD.jpg

Used some simple cardboard

Foto550-LCLHOJJ8.jpg

When I adjusted the frame and had all the sheet metal roughly finished I painted the treated sections in ''anti rust paint'' (I dont know how its in english)

Enough pictures for today, I hope you guys like this project... :proud:

I've put the mini backwards in the shed, so I could easily replace the other floor parts by rotating it longitudinal. As I predicted the other side was in same shitty conditoins  :mmkay:

Made the mini for 99% rust free now, there are some small spots on the crx-frame that I have to treat with some chemicals that's converts(?) rust in a solid material.

Foto550-8JHHDVJT.jpg

I had to cut a connection between the rollcage and the minishell to repair the floor sections properly. When replacing the cutted connection I used an inner pipe to reinforce this ''weak'' spot. We made a tube thats 1mm to short so we could weld in the gap between this tube and the rollcage, this makes a strong connection between the tubes and the innertube. (weld them all three together)

Alot is been done since the last post. All the replaced panels are treated with an undercoating. Now the mini is finally in the shape I want, it cost me much more time than most friends/family think (they only see the black coating), they don't see that all the sh*tty restaurationwork is been redone, and to be honest I wish they were treu.

As you could see in other pictures the mini has a pretty stiff chasis now, except there connection front suspension-rollcage is missing, so

I made a removable stiff connection between the front suspention and the rollcage.

conected the strutbar to the rollcage

I think I've created a pretty good connection between the left and the right suspension, because both bolds (on the end of the rods) pull, so there is no clearance. In normal strutbar the bolts jam it together (https://www.google.n...19.html;640;480)

My last update is a few weeks ago, so its about time for a new one!

I want a race mini, not a comfort mini, so the position of the seat is very important. So I decided to cut the original torsion beam and replaced some smaller beams to keep the floor stiff. The original beam isn't necessary anymore because the rolcage will take all the torque and stiffness.

It saves me about 15 cm (6 inches) in seat hight, and that has some benefits! The center of gravity becomes lower and you get much more feeling when driving the car.

I found some 8 1/4 inch vented brake discs, but I earned the fool of the month award when one of the discs slipped out of my hand, and felt on a hammer that was laying on the floor :withstupid:

Awesome!  Loving the DIY approach and the decent results!  Not something you see very often!  If I ever had to scrap/binned my Integra, I would be holding onto the engine to do something similar.  Great project!

Thank you!

Thats one of the reasons I started this topic, I looked at lots and lots of information and youtube video's about other projects before I had enought know how to build one myself. And this is the (pretty unique) result. Pretty satisfied so far...

I like doing things my self! the experience you get by doing such project is enormous! and I can test and improve my own mechanical engineering skills!

Offcourse I have as a poor student not much options, the only things I have is time, some skills and motivation ;D

Comments/opinions are always welcome, maybe I am thinking to far out the box sometimes and I can use your opinion/tips :proud:

What kind of shifter did you use?

Shifting is now nr2 on the to-do list, the engine is finally running and I must replace it the mini. Then I'm gonna look how I fix the shifting,

I really want to use the same technique as a Pagani, but I think its to complicate.

The other option is to use the original schifter and replace the rods for flexible boat steering cables.

Hello,

sorry sorry, havent updated in a while, I was very busy with school and my graduation project.

But I can say, alot has been done!!

Because I want some weight on the front wheels I want the fueltank and the battery in the front. To protect these I made a aluminium protection plate.

I started with some coardboard to look how its comming and to determine the dimensions, then I drawed in solidworks so I could cut them on the plasma :shades:

Making a cardboard fueltank with my mate lucas

Trowed away the original cardboard and made one with the measurements from solidworks (to check myself)

Replaced the stock clutch for a stage 3 clutch, now the engine is out its an easy job, and because I want a turbo setup in the future... :whistling:
