Hi ^_^

Welcome to TMF and good luck with finding a mini
My mum & dad both had minis and it's one of the reasons I got one, it must be in the genes :w00t:

Natalie x

PS Once your sorted if your mum fancies buying me one too... :(

Hi Natalie.

lol think your right about it being in the genes, mum loves mini's and I've had a fascination for them since watching Mr Bean when I was about 2!!

It's been no easy task getting her to part with the cash......the only reason she's given in is because it's a mini and she's fallen in love with it too!!!

Hi and welcome to TMF Fellow Scot..!

How about you guys find me a perfect mini in Edinburgh / Glasgow area then you get a picture!!! :w00t:

Not that easy to find them here, and they do tend to be more expensive.. but they 2 your looking at are not expensive in my opinion..

Going to see the Blue one tomorrow at 8pm :(

Hopefully its as mint as the man says it is & I can make an offer ^_^

Any advice on price?? I thought of offering £3k (700 less than advertised) and see where it goes from there!!!

3k is not bad at all, you are looking at sports pack 1.3 mpi minis here. on the 70k one take it for a good drive, build up the revs as you are driving and change through the gears quickly, look for crunches changing from 1 st to second and especially 2nd to first (change gears quick) if it crunches your looking at engine out and gearbox re-build.

Rover said in the manual that the oil change interval was 12,000 miles on MPI's and this wore out the syncros in the gearbox rapidly.

rust around the rear subframe mounts, under the headlights, A panels etc..

The main enemy of these is rust..

it is a 1 piece carpet so not easy to lift.. make sure you do lift it and check the floors thoroughly,
look closely at the panel the spotlamps and attached to as the panel rusts where the brackets sit, and you could be looking at a new front panel..

so theres no real reason for them being that much more expensive.

not true... there arw a mass of differences..

Fuel injected, different cooling system, (front mounted rad) and fuel system set up Multi point Injection, full leather, walnut dash, side impact protections bars, airbags, koni adjustable suspension as standard, sports pack wheels and arches etc, etc etc

I agree with Cooper Shaz I don't think either of those are overpriced, especially the blue'un.

The MPi is about as practical a Mini as you can buy, Rover sorted out a lot of the issues with the engine by fitting injection, and a good cooling system etc, however they do seem prone to rust, although it seems to go in batches...

My mate has a 2000 'W' MPi, Cooper Works etc etc, its just had to have a whole new front end, wings, front panel and 'A' panels, and a sizable repair to the scuttle. It was a weekend car, not used everyday, and well maintained. Another mate has the same year car, 'W' MPi, and the only rust on the whole car is a small bubble on the drivers side scuttle corner. Similar milage and usage....wierd.

Good luck looking at the car Jade, just try not to let the looks of the car blind you if you know what I mean. Mini's can be made to look pretty quite cheaply, the most important parts are the underneath, and how it feels to drive. It should be nippy, tight on handling, and stable when cornering, if it feels loose and floppy and a bit vague, then its going to need some work. Underneath is important too, condition of the shell, and the running gear.

Hope that helps, and welcome to TMF!

That's why I took Neil, he was lending me the cash til I sold my clio I knew that if he thought it wasn't worth having he'd tell me so.
Try and make it look like you know what you're doing even if you don't :(
