Thanks for all the comments, waiting to hear from the insurance company as they had problems tying to salvage the car due to the police moving it without telling me (after they said they wouldn't)

A sad day. I actually restored NDV in the late 80's. It was at least 2 years hard work in a damp lockup garage with no power. Taking bits home to refurbish etc etc. I am gutted to see the car end up like this and feel the pain of the current owner. I had some fun with the car and then sold it to my old boss who used it for shows etc. I lost touch with car once my boss sold it.
I really struggle with the mentality of some of the mindless thugs that we have living in this country who would be capable of doing this to someone's pride and joy.
To the current owner, if it is salvageable, I would be pleased to help in anyway I could to get the car back on the road by way of spares and my assistance.

It was testament to the work you did on the car as it drove like it was only a couple of years old and was in fantastic condition for its age, I always got comments and plenty of smiles when anybody saw it or got in it. Always a talking point, thanks for the offer I am struggling as to what to do about the car as I intended to drive it until it needed restoring again then with my son rebuild it, this is a lot worse than I ever would have let it get and not sure what to do next. Will wait to see about insurance and look into the options. Thanks for lifting me when seeing all was lost, that there may be options and maybe a chance this car will be on the road again.

I would wait and see what the insurance company has to say, but if the shell itself is not badly distorted, if it were me in would buy it back and attempt a restoration. I have a complete photo album of the restoration of the car for a cross reference if required. Most parts are available either new or secondhand.

Good luck and please feel free to contact me if required. I am in Barnstaple so not too far away.

Certain oil seal release Hydrofloric acid when burnt - Hence why most burnt out cars are CAT B

Just had the paperwork for the insurance, obviously they want a copies of all documents etc, so will have to sort that out. Just uploaded a few more images of the mini, before and after images that I have managed to get together for the album, I am going to have one last push on social media to see if anyone has any ideas as it will be a week tomorrow night it was stolen so will start tweeting and sharing around on Facebook etc to you never know it might just work!

Please look at the wreck and give honest opinions on whether there is a chance to salvage something from this mess as I really don't want to give up.

Paul it would be really useful if at some point you could scan some of the images of your rebuild so I could add to the Flickr album (if that's OK with you) to show the effort and work that takes to build such a lovely car.

Cheers

Have you got agreed valuation insurance and are they aware of all the modifications?

Everything is repairable with the right budget and skill but I would personally let it go as the base metal of the shell shall be damaged and probably warped.

I suppose it depends how much the heat as damaged the metal and weakened it...... And I'm not sure how you could tell really .... But if everything is ok then I would restore it..... I've seen people start a resto on worse!!!!

Cheers james

Makes me so angry to see this, let's hope that the perpetrators have the same done to them on day so they can see how it feels! I had my Paul Smith stripped and vandelised in my lock up. I'd owned it for 13 years, since it was 2 weeks old so I know exactly how you feel! My advice - sort the insurance and come back with something similar. Don't let this put you off, you should have a car that you want.

PSMini They might as well have taken the car looking at the pics, not much they didn't take, I have been looking around at some minis, not sure yet, just can't believe the prices at the moment. I guess they are going to keep going up.

I agree. To add insult to injury, they kicked every panel in! I was heartbroken. I bought a Bini cooper S and grieved for a year but then I bought the Mayfair and built the car I'd always wanted. I didn't have an agreed valuation (I do now) but I did loads of research and got the right payout after providing evidence of how much similar cars were going for, the lack of availability and the fact it was a one owner (+dealer) car, I got a decent payout. Just remember that insurance is about indemnity - putting you in the same position you were in before the event occurred.
