Experienced Driver Never Had Insurance -Options?

There is a possibility that I may need a car for a potential new job and am just starting to think allowed.
I am 29 years old and held a drivers license since I was 18. This was a South African license then converted into a UK license in 2009.
I have never owned a car in the UK so have never had insurance.
My question is will I be thumped with a massive insurance premium as I am essentially a first time driver?
I have been part of Zipcar for coming up 2 years and used company vans from 2008 till 2012.
Car will be parked on the street in London.
Will I see a big difference between say a Seat Leon Cupra 1.8T and a late Mini Cooper Sport?
Let me know your thoughts.

Do an online quotation, put in 7+ years no claims, get a price then amend quotation with no no claims and see how much difference it makes. On most sites it makes no difference for me whether I have full or no NCB, figure that out.

I would phone up - you can't explain your driving experience to a web page calculator
The more phoning around you do - the cheaper it will get
& your a first time driver in the UK - you have driven in other country's - so have experience of that
you have owned a driving licence for 11 years - just not an UK one
there are a couple of insurance company's on here - they may know of a specialist

My first three cars were a company car, so I didn't have any of my own insurance until I was 28, however I was able to get my company to provide details of my No Claims equivalence when I bought my own car and I got given two years NCB as a starter, as above best to ring up and speak to someone.

Not sure re the insurance side, but with regards to the Leon or the Mini being parked on the street, I reckon the Mini would get stolen.

How much if an effect on insurance does "business use" have.
Appreciate all your feedback. Will just wait till if and when the day comes and I will call around. Will try get something from work and can get something from Zipcar and hopefully they get accepted as NCB.

The insurance should accept a letter from your employer stating that you have been a company car driver with no claims as reason for a discount. It's very common these days.

Business insurance on my Vectra brings my insurance down slightly as they expect me to do more miles so think I am a more experienced driver.
When I was at college, my maths teacher who was in his 30's was learning to drive. His insurance was about 1/3rd of mine and I had held my licence for almost a year.
It probably wasn't as cheap as if he had been driving for the last 13 years but was still a dam sight cheaper than what I was paying.
