Great to see the work, those flywheels can be such a pain. Nice to hear it came off without too much bother  (once the washer was off!).

Update time - it's been a while!

So a few things have changed, namely i picked up another Lupo GTI recently. It belonged to a neighbour and when i found out it was in the rare Anthracite colour, i had to have it. How long it'll stay i'm not sure, i'm trying to bring it back to 100%, it's almost there but it just needs a little tidying up in areas and then i might do a couple trips then sell it on - I'm desperate (for some odd reason) to get an aircooled VW bus...)

Anyway, back to the Mini. A fair bit has changed namely with the engine. So the original plans were to just have the block honed, cleaned, and the head rebuilt. However when Idropped the engine off at the machine shop we agreed that it would probably need at least taken to +20 due to some mild scoring. Then i thought, well if i'm going to have it bored one size up i might as well go 3... so it came back bored +60 to 1330. I have been in the process of getting it back together and painting the block. Slow process but getting there, i've got a week off soon and i'm trying to get the majority of the engine back together.

The head came back with new stem seals and guides and ready for painting and mounting.

I did the laborious task of calculating CR with the new pistons installed - hopefully i've got it right...!

Then a lick of BMC green.

Since then i've actually got the crank and pistons back in the block. I'm waiting on my next dropship of parts from Minispares to allow me to get the timing gear on etc. I think for this summer i'm going to remove the gearbox from my 998 and fit it to this engine as i know it was working well - providing the 998 was an A+ box, i'll need to check this weekend. Then over winter i might do a rebuild of the spare gearbox when funds allow.

I've also opted for a pre-verto clutch and flywheel assembly, i managed to score a bargain off a local chap on Facebook and now have a complete pre-verto setup with new clutch plate and slave ready to go on.

I've also ordered up a new carpet set just from MS - nothing too fancy yet, again over winter i might invest in a full interior set from Newton Commercial but right now i just want to get the car roadworthy again. I've bled the brakes and have the handbrake adjusted. So that's a couple more jobs ticked off the list.

And i signed up for this...

48191256792_fdb65659bd_z.jpg

Well that's a deadline to work to, that would allow me to have a couple months driving it until the winter sets in and i can work on any issues picked up this year.

Funnily enough that's the calc i used, measurements should be fine too, but you never know - first time doing something i'm holding my breath until it all fires up!

Great project and two great cars you have..The Lupo GTI is for me the closest buzz you get in a modern car to replicate the thrill of a quick sorted mini ...i very nearly purchased this off my son to restore..instead I'm in deep doing the van...the lupo is still here so when the van is finished i think the lupo is a must especially as good ones are getting hard to find..Cheers..

FINALLY - an update.

So, the car has been driving for a few weeks now. The 1330 is fitted - it has been run in and is driving lovely!

Still need to do a few things, the lights need wired up, interior finished off and the bonnet/door fitment adjusted.

I'd like to get the car rolling road tuned, but i don't live near anything like that so i might just have to read books, watch videos and do my best.

Next year the plans are to take it to a few shows; IMM Germany and 2 events at St Moritz, although only as a spectator.

I'll post some more photos as and when i get a chance and things change.

Well, the car has had some decent miles in it now. Run in period is just about over and the car is running lovely. I've had the engine given the once over by the infamous Ricky Gauld up here in Huntly (near Aberdeen), and i've just had the alignment done by a local also. Yet to take it a drive since the alignment has been done, but i'll be driving it to cars and coffee Inverness this weekend then back through an hour to my storage facility. That'll be all she wrote for winter! I have a few tasks to do over winter but i'm in no rush, i'm a bit annoyed i didn't get the car finished sooner in the year to enjoy it but such is life.

I have managed to get to a couple of shows; Nairn Wheels & Roseisle Vintage fair, so for  anyone that likes the bigger stuff here's a couple of photos.

So before winter sets in proper (there has been some frost and salt on the roads already up the Highlands!!) i thought i'd go a last Autumnal drive to take some photos - and yes i took a camera this time instead of my phone like all the other pictures!

Some work to do over winter:
- Properly fix all fuel and brake lines to the underside of the car
- Sort out as many of the rattles i can find, i guess now the car has done some miles things have had a chance to settle and its starting to rattle a little bit
- Some sound proofing on the doors, rear quarters, floor and bulkhead
- Sort out the wiring for the lights properly
- Rebuild my spare gearbox and mate to the engine

I'll update with any progress as and when.

See you soon

Cheers! I was going to go along today but i slept in, and the weather was so good that i took the car back to storage in Elgin instead - via a few nice roads of course. Your project is looking amazing, can't wait to see it.
