Just done a super quick compare the market jobby and it is only going up by about £40. obviously im expecting it to go up a it when finalising it when they ask for more details but was expecting worse.

I guess ill have to swallow the extra then once mine is all done.
The insurance is in the Mrs name so maybe the will see it as a lady driver and be nice and leave it cheap :shy:

be careful if you are the main driver but use her name on the insurance. It's called fronting and technically invalidates your insurance. So same as the undeclared mods - you'd be liable for all costs if the insurance can prove it's you who is the main driver. More difficult, but you know when it comes time for them to pay out they'll try every excuse to get out of paying.

To be honest mate its very rarely ever used. Bloody insurance companies are such a scam.

having been asked this many times over the years and seeing what happens my advice is to stick to the 998 and tune it with a Stage 1 kit and a rolling road. Stage 1 kits are a modification but in insurance worlds its a smaller one than and engine change. 

 

A well setup 998 is just as much a match for a 1275.  I know my wee clubby there is a 998 and it can keep up with any standard 1275 and most "hand tuned" ones too.

 

 

Smaller engine better tuning means less premiums and just as much fun.

I know someone who had an undeclared engine conversion, he lost his licence for a year, and got a hefty fine. Make sure you declare with both insurance and DVLA when you do it

Phone up a company that are specialists in modified cars. 

 

When I first passed my test I had two cars, a 225 TT and a Micra Powered mini, on a specialist modified policy with Adrian flux I paid some where around £600 on my mini with a fresh license. 

 

I am still with the same insurance company and have a few policies. I phoned them up yesterday to ask about the possibilities of putting a 3.0 V6 in my work van (from a 1.9 TDI), along with brakes, wheels, exhaust, suspension and interior alterations and was told the increase in my premium would be £80. I cannot argue with that. 

 

Phone up a specalist, Adrian Flux, Graham Sykes, HIC who ever, and ask them, its the only way you will find out.

Runs sweet as a nut, just enough power but not too silly :) quite a complicated conversion but not alot of shell modification needed ( only inner wings!)
