I moved to a nicer area and all our vehicles went up when we rang to update the details, they said that because payouts to residents from that area cost more the premiums are more, basically even if a person lives in a nice area yet has a bump in the centre of a rough town the stats show big payouts going to the nice postcode because the people from the posh area have more expensive cars. More likely they think the people from the posh area will cough up the extra cash!

Edit to say we dont have any expensive cars either, lol.

I'm sure they just make up excuses and pick the premiums out of the sky.

As with mine using that because I'm unemployed that somehow means I wouldn't be able to afford the premium, even though I've always chose to pay in full at the start and not monthly. And the whole 'not being able to afford to maintain your vehicle' also takes the. So what they are saying in within the next year my tyres (new last year and £30 each) will have worn out within the next 5k along with my brakes etc. But then it would be perfectly ok for me to be employed, have a dirt cheap premium and then drive round for 8 or so months with bald tyres and only one headlamp and classed as a safer driver less likely to have an accident.

The worst cars I see for lamps out and bald tyres are new ones, probably pre mot or cars that get sent back to the lease company the day before anyway! Adding another year before the first test wont help either imo.

I agree. My daily is a company car. Two years ago, I got an advisory post service that two tyres were quite worn. Waited a thousand miles then tried to get them done. Lease company refused, saying there was plenty of life left in them. A couple of weeks later, it was to be collected by the local dealer and they refused to drive it as one of the tyres was down to the threads.

I was driving it (gently) about 100 miles a week, so no abuse or rapid wear. Really put me off the "maintenance free" concept of a lease car.

I think that because mine was originally a 998 and is now a 1275 that bumps it up - even though it already has 8.4 discs. I remember when I sorned the cooper I was surprised that the modified sky cost more to insure. Anyway I'll give it a go - although looking at all the figures above it looks as though the annual mileage is the big swinger:
2000 miles - £102
3000 miles - £68
3000 miles - £120
5000 miles - £163
8000 miles - £200.
Cheers
steve

Just in case anybody comes and looks at this thread in the near future - I settled at £150 with Carole Nash. Excess is £150, includes breakdown cover - which I have to admit I have had to use a few times in the past ( the joys of mini motoring ). Cheers chaps. Steve.
