Engine slid over the front of the subframe and bolted back in.
And front back on the car.

So today i did something i've been meaning to do for about 10 years since i bought them, some hate them but i love them, much better than the puny sounding original horn.
I made a bracket that bolts through an existing hole in the brace bar and holds the compressor behind the two horns, pretty neat and tucked out of the way.
Now that looks and sounds better! Not to bad as they only cost me 50 pence at a car boot sale.

A couple of other little jobs that i've had time to do recently.
The first one was that since completing the restoration i've never had any mats in the car to stop the carpets getting dirty and the kids have got fed up with me telling them to take their shoes off or check they have'nt got mud on their shoes. A mate of mine was clearing out his car selling retail pitch and had given me a big pile of old car mats that he'd taken out of various cars over the years so i chucked them in my garage 10 years or so ago and left them untill last week when they fell off of the unit they were sat on, i picked them off the floor and saw one with Austin Rover on the heel patch so checked it for size and quess what a pair of original dealer option grey fitted carpet mats! i got the wet vac out and gave them a good clean and what a result, brilliant!!.
Pre clean.
All clean and fitted.
The second job was to fit the double din kenwood DAB stereo that my dad gave me out of his car when he gave up driving a few years ago. I had been looking for a mounting box to suit the double din size for the last couple of years without luck untill i saw a stereo company importing these ones from the states, I had an older Alpine stereo in the car but could only use it through my i pod as i did'nt want to fit an aerial, but now i have crystal clear DAB that i can listen to even with the single box RCM Maniflow exhaust system. And the aerial is just stuck on the windscreen and gives perfect reception.

Had a bit of time this week as the weather has been a bit pants to look back at some of the things that i did and places that we took the car. Last August the kids and i went to a classic car show in Bratton which is a village near to Westbury White Horse and on the way home we stopped at an old abandoned petrol station for a look and a couple of cheeky pictures.
The garage was open untill the late eighties and just left as it was apart from the office being boarded up, there is an old Mk1 cavalier out the back which is looking a bit worse for wear after standing for thirty years.

When i first did the car i put a Mk1 boot conversion panel on the original boot lid and it does look good, but i fancied a change back to the original style boot lid. My good mate Paul gave me an old boot lid that he acquired a few years back, it was covered in grey overspray on the outside and covered in old Max power magazine stickers on the inside!
Part way through cleaning up the outside.
