Hi all,

I'm struggling to get any decent quotes for my mini. I am 18 and this will be my 2nd year of driving now...

The problem is that any classic insurers or young driver insurers won't touch me because my car is an 'import' which is ridiculous as we all know! Those that will give quotes are £2000 or more

If anyone could give me any help or advice on this that would be great - I have heard rumours that you don't necessarily need to declare the jdm mini as an import? Not sure if there is anything in this though
..

Thanks

I'm no expert but beware of not declaring its an import - if push comes to shove you'll essentially be driving uninsured

Lets face it, if you're struggling because its an import then insurance companies obviously consider it a significant factor.

this is what I have been thinking - I wouldn't consider not declaring this unless it's fully above board! It just seems silly that the same Company will quote me £700 no import and then £2000 with it as an import when it's a mini, the only difference being it doesn't have a headlight level switch!

You'll always do better ringing insurance companies and getting them to play off each other.

A plan thatcham branch is who I use for Japanese import, not a mini but they do specialise in imports, only issue is your age as unsure if they would quote, maybe worth a call

My 911 is a LHD import and I have it insured with Admiral on a classic policy with an agreed valuation & limited mileage.
Cost is just under £100/year but then I am a bit older than you!

Might be worth giving them a try?
