Engine Number Query

When my son bought his '73 Mini car there was no engine plate on the block. The rivets are still in place but the plate would appear to have just rusted away.
The engine is a later A + series but yesterday we found a number stamped into the block under where the plate would sit.
It took quite a bit of delicate use of the Dremel but the number is 131391 and it is located on the RHS of the flat where the plate would sit.
Anyone got any idea of what this number is?
We have an engine number on the V5 which is for a 998 A+ but that bears no resemblance to to 131391.
Thanks in anticipation.

post up pictures so the engine can be IDed as small or large bore to start with.
and the number could mean anything. but is the rivets are original then the engine is most likely to be standard as you need to remove them to work on the block.

Thanks so far guys. Below are a couple of photos that hopefully will help.
Nick - when I said that the rivets are still there perhaps what I should have said is that there is metal in the holes in the block where the rivets go but this is flush with the block!

I'd still love to know what the stamped numbers mean though!

Or there were the engine number after the description letters that the then owner thought it might be good to put on it.
