Mpi Radiator Fan Not Cutting In

Good evening
Absolutely new to the joys of the classic mini. I've had mini for a very short while, and just the other week it overheated.

I've noticed that the radiator fan doesn't come on at all now.
I have been driving it very short distance everyday for the last few weeks. I have changed the temperature sensor on the thermostat in hopes that it would correct the fault but nothing.

I'm a total novelist to this. I also have a new temperature loom to connect but a bit afraid as don't want to cause more damage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's no leaks in the expansion tank is there?

No there are non . It's completely dry . After reading through some other post, as silly as this sounds , there were 3 of us , well sat young lads in the car , Sunday traffic when it did overheat. I'm going to try to attempt to install the new temp loom.
I will also try to replace the water pump. But the problem is the fan doesn't want to cut on at any point it used to work perfectly.

I would install the temp loom before the water pump, as it does sound as though the fan is the main issue.

Does the fan turn by hand? see if you can poke something in to see if it's free to to turn just to prove it's not seized up.

Before you buy anything, unplug the temp sensor and start the car, this should turn the fan on. If not, then you know its power to the fan / fan issue, rather than a sensor / temp sensor wiring issue. 

 

You say it overheated, just on the gauge or overflowing expansion tank? My MPi fan rarely cuts in in weather like this.

Madis MK1 you genius. I have just unplugged the temp sensor and the fan came on.

Pity I had already connected the new temp loom. So do you think is ok to drive and lone distance and the fan will come on ?
What whould explains the overheated the other week ?
The expansion tank did get hit and there were bubbles and water / steam coming out of it .

When it did overheat , it was on both the gauge and the tank.
As I said after disconnecting the temp sensor loom, the fan did cut in. I'm going to take it for a snort drive and see if it will as it used to be for.

Apologies for my tardiness, just got back in.
The temp gauge seems to stay at half through out my short journey in stop and start traffic. The fan has not cut in at any time throughout the journey. Not sure what is going on. Bit afraid to take her out on a full on long distance trip for the min.
Any reason what the fan won't cut in ? As I said before it always came on , on any short trips or as soon as the engine got up to temp.

My MPI fan will only ever come on when sitting in traffic for ages. As long as you have flushed your radiator/cooling system at some point (ie taken the radiator out, turned it upside down and run a hose through it) it should be fine.

Yes I believe that it was flushed when I did get the car by the mac. He did say he flushed the engine. Now I'm not shy if he ment the oil or the water.

That is the temp loom that I Bought, although it is now black not the brown as advertised.

​might be a good idea to fliush the radiators out tourself then. Doesn't take lonf=g, but make sure you leave the interior heater valve fully open when you do it ;)

Ok , ill try that , how Wouk go about doing it correctly? Do I need to remove the radiator completely?
