Hi All,

Currently I am in the process of doing a light restoration a 1972 mk3 mini and it has quite a few rust spots on the roof gutter (the edge itself).

It was repaired a couple of years ago with fiberglass and body filler. after it was painted in oil based paint with a roller -.-' now I have to fix all the work the previous panel beater did.

My question here: what is the best way to do a roof gutter edge? meaning the curved L piece? is it possible to purchase a length (like the drip rail)? or how do  you usually do it?

I have repaired half of a side with 15cm pieces but not satisfied with the work :(

Thanks

Joseph

Forgot to mention, the way I repaired it was by first doing a 90degree bend, then hammering the edge on a long 10mm round bar on an anvil.

The round bar i used was a lot smaller, if memory serves me correctly i used 6 or 7mm. The biggest issue is the curved line of the roof. For that i would use a shrinker and gently form the curve after you have made the gutter piece. Make sure there is enough material to enable you to use the shrinker.

I bent a piece of bar to shape of corner of roof, then I formed steel plate on this, turned out very good, I also made a forming tools for the holes in corners,
Just take your time
Mk4 onwards then you can replace entire panels to get the gutter but Mk1,2 & 3 the corners are not available as far as I am aware

Anyone have a pictures of this process? I'm also looking to do the exact same on my '72 in the near future, and whilst I'm fairly happy with how you've all done it a picture paints 1000 words!
