I'm looking at doing a rebuild of my 1100 and was looking into other mini engines as a comparison to output figures. Looking at the 997 cooper engine which has almost the same compression ratio as to my 1100, same head and I will be running the same inlet and exhaust, the figures are around 55hp and 54lb-ft of torque. My 1100 out of the factory has 48 hp and 60lb-ft. The extra torque cam be explained by the longer stroke and the camshaft explains the extra hp.
But then I look at the lower spec 1275 engines and they have almost the same horsepower and torque figures as the 997 cooper engine but with larger bore. But the head is an open chamber with larger valves.
So basically my question is that are the Leyland camshafts originally fitted quite poor performance wise and if replace the 948 camshaft in my 1100 to one such as a minispares Evolution001 camshaft, MD266 or RE266ss will the power figures produce any real difference?
Thanks for your advice.
