Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Feel free to share anymore info you get hold of and some more pics of your car, including the rebuild if you have any?
On a different thread if you'd like?

Ben

Hiya Ben!

I would have added more pictures from the restoration but they are all on my old hard drive from the computer that ate itself in a colossal meltdown, if/when I do ever get them off of there I will add them!
I may add some pictures of my Mini on my profile shortly; it's all about picking the right ones though! ;D

For years I was looking for background information about the Mini's used in Mr. Bean.
In one post you give answerd to the questions I had for years and even provide more detailed information and a lot of great photos to.

Thank you very very much for sharing this information!

Still I have some questions :proud:

Did I understand correctly they crushed 3 Mini's in  'Back To School Mr Bean' ?
(I was always hoping they didn't crushed a Mini used in other episode too, but sadly they did)

And do you have some information about the Mini used in Mr. Bean: Funeral (2015)?

You're more than welcome!

They did crush three Minis in that episode, sadly.

To answer your other questions/posts - I have updated the topic with information about the Reliant/s.

I will add information about the Mini used in the Comic Relief sketch soon, but it was not the Mini from Beaulieu!

Fascinating stuff, thanks for taking the time to write this and I look forward to future updates.

I’d be interested to hear the in depth story of your cars survival!

Do you know why they filmed it tree times then?(I understand when you have 3 cars ready you will use all 3, but I would like to know why 2 was not enough) The driving scene from "Do-It-Yourself Mr. Bean" is now so legendary that it is a shame they crushed that Mini. But back then ,like you have describe it, it was just an old Mini.

Looking forward to the update on the other Minis ?

Edit: Do you maybe have also information about the left hand drive(!) Mini used in 1994 in 3 commercials for the Scandinavian supermarket chain "Rema 1000".

In the world of film and TV if it's financially viable and safe to shoot something like the Tank Scene more than once, then they will! It gives more opportunity to get it exactly how the creators imagined.

Sadly, I don't really know anything about the Rema Mini - It's a Mk3, most likely built in Belgium, definitely looks like it was a 'Citron Green' car from the factory as every part of the car seems to be painted that colour...it does seem to have resprayed at some point due to the windscreen wiper rubbers and lower part of the windscreen rubber being painted over. Parts of the front panel appear to be black too, possibly/probably a rust repair. The poor thing doesn't look to be in amazing condition and the chances of its survival are very minimal! Unfortunately due to the image quality I can't figure out the number plate, otherwise I'd do a bit of digging - certainly, I really wouldn't be surprised if it was a scrap car that was quickly painted so it was shiny for the ads and then sent back to the scrapyard and disposed of afterwards!

Sorry I can't help you out there any further!

I can't see the pictures posted in this thread at work, but if I remember when I get home I'll dig out some unseen pictures and footage of the Goodwood weekend.
As I was driving front and centre of the rolling road block of six Union Jack cars in front of the Bean Mini (instructed not to go over 20mph as Rowan couldn't breathe and gurn at the same time) we managed to have a unique view of proceedings.

I can't promise anything, but I will see what I can do! It's in fairly bad condition, but some work has been done and it has now been totally stripped down.

The Armchair Mini

attachicon.gif 30.jpg

I had absolutely no idea what section to put this in, so it has one all for itself!
'F885 RRY' is the real registration of this car. It was British Racing Green from factory.
In 2009, when the organisers for the Goodwood Revival knew they wanted to do something special with Mr Bean during the celebration of 50 Years Of The Classic Mini they came up with the idea of recreating the famous scene from the Mr Bean tv series in which Mr Bean drives from an armchair on the roof of his car. Obviously the original didn't survive so a new car had to be built. Using the "original blue prints" the car you see was constructed. Mr Bean was a huge success at the Revival, I was there that year and remember hearing laughter approach as Mr Bean approached.
After the three day event the car was stored and at one point was going to go to auction. In 2015, to celebrate 25 years of Mr Bean a short film was created that saw Mr Bean driving on the roof of his car through St. James's Park and up the Mall toward Buckingham Palace before stopping in front of a big pile of presents and talking to the press about his "birthday plans".
Since the 25th Birthday event in 2015 the car has been seen in Italy on the shores of Lake Como at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in 2018.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick note to let you know that THE Mr Bean Mini will be appearing on the Corgi stand at the International Mini Meeting this year to coincide with the re-release of Mr Bean's Mini in the Corgi Range and the 60th Birthday of the Mini!

This is the first time that any of the original Mr Bean Minis has ever been to the IMM and also the first time the car has ever been displayed with Corgi...we have been planning this secretly with Corgi for a few months now, but since it's time to let the cat out of the bag, I thought a little post on here would be more than worthwhile!

Please do come and say hello and have a look!  :D
