I think I made a passing comment in another thread somewhere that I was off to a Meeting with my 'local' Moke Club, the South Australian Moke Club (SAMC), for an outing and a formal Club Meeting.

The trip all up for me was a little broken up due to that dreaded four letter word - work.

I went over to SA on the 13th October, attended the Munn Run up through the Adelaide Hills on the 16th then had to fly home for work that evening.

I finally got a window on the 25th November to go back, finish (or try to!) some un-finished Moke business, then start my trip home, only for the return trip, A good mate, Garry came and joined me, picking him up from Adelaide Airport on the 30th October. We had a leisurely, though hot (36 - 40 degrees) trip back home.

I'm not that great at writing up the running commentary, so for the most part here, I'll let the photos do the talking.

Just on Sun-up on the first day out, along the boring Hume Highway, sitting easy, on Cruise Control

There's some mighty fine sights down in lil ol' Australia.  Great pics in there Chris.

I hope you acknowledged Murphy's Island as you went past!

Well, there you go. I didn't look for that previously, but I do go that way 'often' so I'll be sure to check it out next time.

You'll have to come on the next one (if there is a next one?)

what's that on the front wing

Air Filter ;D

This one is a Donaldson Cyclopak.

While not really necessary for a run like this, many of the Outback tracks we travel are really dusty (mega dusty) and the dust is very fine. The stock Air Filters are no where near up to the task of decent filtration. On many early Moke Club Trips, lots of engines got 'dusted' as we say, being followed home with that ominous blue smoke or with a few, the plugs would give out from the sand in the engine turning to glass over the plug gap. A large part of engine and gearbox preparation for these cars is attention to detail to seal them from the dust. The Air Filter is one part of that.

This might give some hint in regards to the dust

 I want one

You can get them in the UK, look up 'Donaldson Agent'. They are made in the US and IMO, are 'Top Shelf' gear for dusty conditions. If you look at just about any half decent Excavation Machinery, Dump Trucks and any sort of machinery that operates in dusty conditions, they'll mostly have a Donaldson on them.

The one on mine has done just on 40 000 km, with a good number of those in dusty conditions. I've checked the element twice since fitting it. While there's sure signs of where it's been, it hasn't needed washing just yet.

You are mad! Cheers for posting.

Oh, is that what it is !!

Yes, I guess that helps :D

Top Bloke, after bumping in to him just off the main street of Gundagai (pronounced Gun-dag-eye), he ducked off home to get his photo albums,,, quite an enjoyable afternoon,,,,

His family's business was the inventor of the Moke Pick-up, here's a photo of one of the prototypes

fmOvedm.jpg

It was from this car that Leyland (Australia) went on to offer this as a model in the Moke line up.

Next day, we were home before midday. The end of another (short) adventure.

Thanks for coming along Garry - enjoyable meandering slow boat home over 4 days,,,,

Time to start thinking about the next,,,,,,
