Similar advice that's no doubt been asked here about mini exhausts. I have a bog standard TRX850 with standard pipes, and want to put some more fruity cans on the back. I have seen the below custom fit ones:

Some guys have whacked bigger cans with no baffles in them, sound great, but not sure if its good for the breathing / back pressure of the engine. Whats the general rule? Better for same size pipe from cylinder head to silencer, or bigger silencer so allow more gas out? Clearly would not go smaller, its a 4 stroke parallel twin engine.

Any advice greatly received!

As with most things unless you go the great efforts and expense it will not perform as well as when it was standard and you will lose torque as well as annoy your neighbors :)

My in law have a brand new 1200 bandit and fitted a race type can. After a few weeks the plod pulled him and gave him a 60 quid fine and 7 days to produce a vehicle road worthiness certificate as the loud can was not BS approved.

On riding the bike with the standard can back on he could not believe the amount of torque he had lost and how smooth the bike now was. It turned out that Mr Suzuki had got it spot on straight out of the box.

I have not owned a TRX but I did have a TL1000 that was always had a flat spot and a slight missfire down low due to a pair of Ducati  cans that were fitted by a previous owner.

Big singles and large v twins are the most unforgiving bikes to suffer from bad caburation due to their massive engine braking, I guess the TRX would be similar so personally I would leave it alone.

Thanks for that, to be honest I got the bike late last year and its been sitting in my garage, so I have not even had it out, just starting it every so often. It came with bigger Renegade silencers with no baffles and its loud, no idea how it rides with them, but I stuck the very original and unused cans back on, its certainly quieter but too quiet now...! Again no idea how it rides with either silencers. Will hopefully get it taxed and insured soon and get out on it now the salty icy roads are behind us hopefully.

Have you got db killers in the renegade cans?. They can usually take the edge off.

No, not baffles with them, they are straight through. I asked a similar question on the TRX forum ( it’s typically not as busy as here) and got a reply from a guy in Aus, reckons keeping the same bore or opening up a bit should be ok, but to re-jet the carbs.
