Lots of labels and sealed plastic bags for storage help, and photo's of anything tricky (before you remove it).

Anything that comes off and has the ability for the screw/nut/bolt to go back in the same part that you've removed, makes it easier when you come back to it - or when you're refurbishing batches of bits.

So I got to continue stripping down the front end last night.

 

To repair or not to repair the bonnet?

Pretty serious corrosion on one of the strengthening bars...

Grill seems in good order and shows no sign of rust.  I hate the self tapping screws holding it in so I think rivnuts may be the way forward.

Noticed a crack in the alternator so this will need to be replaced too...

Front bumper seems in good order so spent ages trying to get the sheered off bolts off without twisting the bumper.  First bit of angle grinding I had to do and got it off OK.  Seems a stupid way to attach the bumper to the car as they are always going to brake when the bolts get a bit rusty.

I'm not best placed to advise on whether that bonnet can be saved, but whatever you do, keep hold of the spring latch and also the spring loaded arm. These don't come included with heritage bonnets and I had to rescue mine from the scrap bin at the body shop yesterday so that they can be transferred over. 

Depending on your budget, but a new bonnet. Remove the VIN plate and the body number stamping and transfer them to the new panels.

I've drilled out the rivets holding the headlight buckets into the wing...

Bit of help please as I'm sure there's a way of easily doing this. How do I get the wire out of the bucket without cutting the wires?
The bulb end seems to be soldered on and I don't know how to get the multi plug end off. I guess I could heat the solder up to release the wires from the bulb end?

I was worried about the colour until I found the original coolant I put in the car which was red..

At the bulb end the spades normally have small tabs which catch on the plastic part.  You may be able to unhook them using a really small screwdriver or something.
