Rear Subframe Mounts Rusted On..

Ither side when the subframe mounts to the heal board a two bolts have snapped in the hole one itherside I'm thinking of trying to drill these out as I tried sliding the subframe off the remaining broken bolt but I think its rusted around the bolt and eont shift. I would get a photo up but my hosting site is playing up any advice tips would be appreciated.

i had the same i cleaned with a wire brush then wd40 then used a small pry bar between the sound heelboard and subframe as close to the bolts as i coud and then the opp side and poyt it came

At your own risk  - I have used a blow lamp (carpets out of the back of the car obviously and remove any trim form the side bins - preferably have a mate inside the car keeping an eye on things), heat the bolt / stud up and then protecting your face, spray from a 12 inch or so distance penetrating fluid on the stud.  The thermal shock shrinks the stud, often breaking the rust seal and as the stud instantly cools it sucks the penetrating fluid around the threads - Be very very careful though that the fluid doesn't spit and hit you in the face as it hits the stud.. I always where a full space grinding mask when doing this... and keep water / extinguisher within arms reach.. best to remove fuel tank too as a precaution

If you can lever a gap, then, by tapping it back and forth it should loosen up and come off.

 

Welding a nut on to the snapped bolt close to the heal board gets a lot of heat into the captive nut inside.

If you are lucky, (unlucky), the set screws twist off at the head, and it is possible to drill an 1/8th" hole between the top of the. 'now stud', and the mount;  this lets the easing fluid along the length of the thread.

Success! I managed to slide a hacksaw blade in a slowly cut the bolt thank you for all the suggestions, imageshack is still being a pain il get some photos up soon.

I’ve just finished replacing one side, it’s not a pleasant job, the other side I managed to drill out very successfully

If you can get the frame off try welding a nut to the studs.. saves so much time also heat is great idea.
