Ok not a question about size but one about usage or does it not mater?

for example there is the 3 by 50mm (ish) and you can get adaptors from the 3 hole to a larger 6 hole. and you can go from that to an 8 hole if you really wanted.

so my question is would the three hole be OK on a Mini (mine)

as i have a weld on QR that is 3 bolt! mmmmmmmm

oh would be looking at getting a new wheel to suit.

I find the 'Standard' 6 bolt to be the most flexible as it supports the largest number of steering wheels.

Sure but like I said I have a 3 bolt one.

and is is more of a bolt paten question strength question. is the three bolt strong enough?

As any thing can be fitted to anything with the right number of adaptors.

It depends on fixing size/diameter as well as the pcd and quantity.
Aren’t the 3 bolt wheels for karts? In that application they won’t be subjected to the same amount of force.

I’d be concerned that just three M6 (say) bolts at 50mm pcd would be under too much sheer load and could fail, especially if you whack a kerb etc.

Radical RXC and Arial Atom both run 3 bolt wheels on quick release bosses.

The Atom’s just over 600kg and the RXC is apparently 900kg so I’d imagine a stripped out caged race Mini should be comfortably in that range.

I use a 3 bolt mounting on my Caterham and have done for over 20 years ... the majority of Caterham's are the same using 260mm (10.25") to 290mm (11.5") wheels, typically Momo type 26.
From experience a 290mm wheel on the Caterham still gives heavier steering at manouvering speeds than the 350mm wheel on my Mini, yes the moments of force will be different but I've never heard of any failures.
