Hi, Mini Forum Members.

Looking for some help on a couple of wiring issues:

Following a complete shell strip-down, I commenced re-installing the wiring looms. I hit a snag in a couple of places where the year 2000 Mpi wiring diagrams can't help. (Sourced from Rover)

The interior light wiring diagram shows the conventional 3 wires running to the light - namely the 12v feed, the wire to the door switches and the light fitting earth, however on the loom is also a Red wire which has a connector on it but it appears to have been taped "back" as if not in use.? If I offer the loom up to where it runs to the interior light, this red wiring is not long enough to reach anything in the vicinity. I've tried to trace the wire back into the main loom (behind the dash) but it goes into the big bundle there and I can't see where it exits.!   Anybody got any ideas what this is for?

Secondly - this Mpi model was fitted out with a Rover factory security/immobiliser device - This works off the door switches and switches fitted on the boot lid and bonnet shut plate - I cannot find any information (as again it's not on the Rover wiring diagrams) as to where the wires fitted to these switches fitted run too.?

Obviously I can find the wires at the switch ends but cannot locate the other ends.!  Again anybody come across this and can give me some pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Pretty sure the red wire near the wiring for the interior light wire is for the alarm. I have some wiring diagrams for the  interior light circuit and alarm system but cannot for the life of me work out how to attach to this post. Will have a fiddle around unless someone can tell me how. It may be I haven’t got the functionality on my iPad.

Thanks for the information Quinlan  Minor but that does not seem to be an option on my iPad, will have to power the laptop up.

Red Ruby & Quinlan Minor - Hi,

Thanks for attempting to answer my query.  Technology is a wonderful thing eh.!

If you do have a wiring diagram showing the Red wire config that would be most helpful because I have exhausted all areas I can search in the vain attempt to identify.

Most def the Rover diagram (from 97 year model from VIN SAXXNNAZEDC13445) does not show any red wire anywhere near the interior light. (The only red wire used on this car is the big red one from the engine compartment fuse-box to starter motor.! (well that I can see that is..!)

I have at least identified the wires form the boot and bonnet alarm switches - they feed directly into the alarm/immobiliser unit.!

Thanks for your interest thus far.  As they say a problem shared is a problem "doubled"..!!  Ha..Ha.!

Bang on. Red wire is power for the sunroof where fitted.
