Question for my Automatic owning friends -
Is there a way to remove the oil filter without getting half a pint of oil down the front of the engine?

If there is, I haven't figured it out yet.
Best success I have had is using loads of blue roll, a small tray underneath and trying in vain to keep the housing tilted down as much as possible.
At least we know that part of the engine/gearbox is protected from rust.

Haha true.
I just didn't know if I was being stupid and missing something obvious. By the time you've undone the bolt the filter has emptied itself

Think keeping the filter canister tilted as mentioned above. I always use an old washing up bowl to drain into. It covers a large area and drop the canister complete with old fillter into the bowl. The front of the engine/gearbox is the only bit that gets covered and isn't too difficult to clean up after. I have to say that this is a job I love doing.
