I’m restoring my 1987 Mini Mayfair, I’m trying to get everything that is on display to factory stock (or as close to as i can). I’m struggling to figure out a couple items and hoping someone could help.

What stereo was typically installed for a Mayfair built in this era and What rear speaker covers where used (or speaker system)?

For anyone interested I’ve found out what the original factory installed speaker grills used to look like, pretty simple with no logos or anything.

See https://www.roblight...brochures.html: there is no 1987 'general' brochure on that site but the 1987 Park Lane brochure is there and shows what was fitted (as well as the speakers). The Mayfair would almost certainly have had the same model of radio.

I think the flat speakers as in your photo only come in during the early 1990s. The Park Lane brochure shows two 'pod' speakers which sit on the rear parcel shelf, with the grilles facing into the car. These are what I have in my 1989 Racing, and they are shown in the 1989 Mayfair brochure too. They are rare!

Earlier models (c. 1985) had a single speaker on the rear shelf.

Hi I’m sent to an error page through that link, can you try sending it again because that’ll be ideal help.

That’s good to know that the grills are rare, they where a gift from another mini owner so once replaced I’ll see if he’d like them back or I’ll save them to gift to someone else restoring a 1990s model.

Edit- I’ve found it - https://www.roblight...e-brochure.html
Can’t find a reference or picture in relation to what the speaker grills looked like however

The last of those four pics, looking towards the rear seat, shows one of the original late 80s pod speakers sitting on the rear shelf. There is a better image in the Mini 25 brochure at https://www.roblight.../brochures.html (or maybe try this link https://www.google.c...QMygHegUIARCwAQ

Better pics here too: http://www.theminifo...-philips-radio/

It seems these speakers were used 1985-89 (ish) before the change to the larger round grilles set flush in the parcel shelf. They are not bad but I doubt would satisfy an audiophile!

Oh yes i see what you mean, they seem pretty rare so will be a struggle to find but at least i know exactly what I’m looking for. Cheers.

I Have this radio surplus to requirements, don’t know if it works and I don’t have the metal bracket and plastic fascia. (numbers 14 and 1 in the rimmer brother’s link)
