Hi, I am a newbie, I got my Innocenti Mini Cooper 1300 5 days ago (in tip top shape) and I already managed to flood the engine by applying too much gas with choke after firing it up and cranking it a little bit too much.

After 2 minutes it started nicely without choke but leaked fuel from overflow vent. Then i drove it for 20 minutes and it was great, no leak anymore.

The next day it started fine but again leaked fuel at the beginning after start up and struggled a bit to keep idling nicely even after applying some gas. Then after 3 minuts of drive it was ok.

Could this be stuck float or needle which was caused by flooding?

Thank you!

Rok

I would say the float or needle valve are sticking or the float is set at the wrong height. Probable stops leaking once the engine is running faster as it requires more fuel to run.

Fix it before it catches fire. As above float and/or needle issues.

Hi, so now on my twin hs2 carb only one float bowl is leaking through the overflow vent.

I have installed new float chamber lids with new floats, seats and needles on both. I have also added inline fuel filter.

Now one float bowl isn't leaking anymore, but one is still leaking a little bit.

Both floats are the same height.

What could it be? ?

Check for dirt or a bit of rubber from your hoses in the needle valve.  You need to remove the float pin and left the needle out and give it a blow out

Also check the choke isnt sticking. Push the cable in then under the carb try and push the choke body/main jet up.

As what Ethal is getting at here, also check your Fuel Pressure where the hose comes on to the Carbs. It needs to be between 1.5 and 3.5 PSI. If this gets up around 5 PSI, the carbs usually are over come and leak from the vent.

I put on the old float chamber lid set with old needle and float, no more leak.

So one of the two new lid sets was faulty.

cheers

S H one T  in the valve / inlet /spasmatic / it happens,/  buy a filter and fit it in, I like close to the carbs, but some say at the back by the tank.

Nothing worse than lying on your back in the damp and wet, getting cold and damp and pi*s wet through, than having it up front - my choice
