It just goes to show how much of an affect the pandemic has had on the events calendar that our 2020 event is still near the top of this forum!

Anyway, we're pleased to announce the dates for 2021 - Red Funnel and Sandown Airfield have confirmed for the 11th and 12th September 2021. Prices are pretty much the same as last year; Saturday or Saturday to Sunday for £33 and Friday-Monday for £66.50 (you can play with the dates when you book, but those are the headline prices).

As always, all the information is/will be on the WCM IOW page and I'll post any significant updates here, too. If you're really keen you can also drop us an email at [email protected] and we'll add you to our mailing list.

Ferry prices are per car including 2 people £33 for Saturday to Sunday, £66.50 for Saturday to Monday. The event is organised excellently by West Country Minis and camping is free.

I would definitley recommend this especially when you get the weather we had last year.

As per JXC's post - the only charge is for the crossing and that's per car. We (WCM) don't charge for anything else.

If you choose to camp, we do put out a donations bucket to help cover the cost of the additional toilets we bring in and the use of local shower facilities, but it's completely voluntary.

On that last point - camping - the airfield is happy for people to camp from Friday to Monday (all still free) and there are also now permanent showers on-site (very fancy things, full body jets, relaxing music etc.. I've not seen anything like them before!).

Booked my ferry!! Unsure as to camp or the luxury of a hotel.

Pro's of camping are:
your where it's all at ( and you can drink and pass out without having to worry about a cab)
if it's glorious weather then it's a joy!
pitched next to your prized possession, so less chance of it being half-inched

Con's:
if it ends up being awful weather it's going to be a 'muddy nightmare'
comfort (more important to those of us that are of a certain age and already carrying multiple aches and pains
your own private bathroom (ditto above)

Ben_O would be great to see you there and meet you in person...oh and also (possibly, but a wk'end) have you have a quick look at my car for potential to book her in and return to the island on another occasion 🤣😉👍

After the dismal year we've all had in 2020 something to look forward to!

Oh and nearer the time happy to meet folk anywhere between the North Cotswolds and Southampton for the 10am ferry over 😬😬

There's a Premier Inn within staggering distance of the airport if you want to enjoy a beer or two without the 'joy' of camping!

Isle of Wight Sandown (Merrie Gardens) Hotel | Premier Inn

Best to book early if you are interested as it is always a busy weekend on the Island.

We usually negotiate a discount with the holiday park (Cheverton Copse) a couple mins walk away as well if camping isn't your thing. We stayed in one of their static vans this year and it was bigger than the first house we lived in!

We took a short run over last week to check in with Dan at Sandown Airfield. Very impressed with the changes they've made and looking forward to September. Even better food, better facilities and a bit more space.

Red Funnel are also reporting bookings for the crossings higher than this time last year so it's shaping up to be another good year!

Not sure if I'll make it along for this one yet, but it was nice exploring the island last year.
