Rear Parcel Shelf - Structural?

Hi...just wondering if the rear parcel shelf and the rear valance are structural?  I see carbon parts are available which I'm guessing are just bonded in, which if the panels are structural would mean loss of rigidity.  Does that matter or are they for a more race application where a roll cage would tie the shell together?

Depends on the thickness of the carbon. F1 cars use it - bonded - for a reason.

The parcel shelf will be as its ties the top of the bulkhead into the rear panel.

The carbon parcel shelves are only really covers to go on top of the original.  Or fill in where there has been a good overlap been left but be aware carbon fiber parts can and do burn.

I ran without a rear valance for years with no problems. But, that didn't involve being rear ended, where I expect it really would be useful.

I do not know how the Mini was designed but my view is that the rear valance forms a box section with the closing panels and adds strength to the rear subframe rear mounts.Similarly but to a lesser amount the parcel shelf may add rigidity to the shell.Steve..
