From M-parts Website;-

" The Real genuine Rubber Cone Spring, made correctly from Rovers only Original Tooling for the assembly line - despite other claims. These are the only product available with correct ride height, bonding to metal, threaded top cup and metal ring - made in the UK.

Beware of all copies and old stock being offered anywhere for sale especially on ebay and websites.

Genuine cones are precisely manufactured to certain technical specifications with the patent number stamped in the rubber - 763432 - no number - not genuine "

http://www.m-parts.c...&product_id=329

1st - With the type on inner plate used in the Mini Sport ones, which are flat both side and that has an effect on the Characteristics - how can it be genuine ?

2nd - Avon never made them as an OEM supply to BMC/ Leland or Rover, granted, those made by M-parts aren't made under a Dunlop roof either.

3rd - On test, the Avon branded cones are nothing like the original Dunlop types, however, the M-parts ones are near identical.

4th - The company offering the Avon Cones have a very very poor reputation - if they said the sky was blue, you'd go outside to check. M-parts and Mini Spares stand by the products they sell and frankly are very trustworthy.

Looks like my next set of cones will be from Minispares - I wonder how long the Minisport cones will last?

Incidentally, who did the test on the Avon cones and is it still available?

I put a set of MiniSpares red dot springs on 7 years ago and the car has settled very little over time, perhaps 1/2" at the front and 1/4" at the rear.

So far very pleased with them! they are when new maybe slightly high on standard trumpets for some folks,

but are starting to settle down.

On handling and comfort they are what I would expect on 3 1/2"X 10" wheels with 145 tyres, fitted to a slightly

heavy Coachbuilt Clubman with a high level of trim driven by an old codger HaHa .

My profile picture shows me and my first Mini Mid sixties. Owned/Built a fair few, worked on 100s.

Thank you for all these replies, really useful. We have decided on the Evolution cones from Minispares along with hilos so will see how they improve things when fitted.

However, it would be easier to decide if we had more user feedback on the new Evo cones.

I will put a few miles on them and post back here - I think I'll notice quite a difference!

For me the 'Hilos' of Minisport are better than those of Minispares. I fitted Moulton rubber cones and I'm happy. Dunlop were the originals of the car, but it were very old and I cannot comment. But the adjuster ride of Minisport have more quality.

Seem more broken adjustarides than HiLos. Have fun as the Minisport rubbers collapse.

...so, I want to test the 'smootha ride Moulton set' that the people say are the most comfortable that exist. I recommend you Nick.

I replaced the front cones with Minisport cones - which also claim to be the original Moulton spec.

Ride was much improved but the ride height was 11.5 inches (should have been 9.75), so I had to fit Hilo's to correct.

Minisport just bought the rights to use the name Moulton. Just like they bought the right to use the name Paddy Hopkirk. Means sweet FA.

Interesting, so you reckon the Minispares cones are a sight better then.

Than what?

The Minisport ones

My friend had the smootharide cones and adjusters. The downside for him was that they are a lot softer than the std cones, so there is significantly more sag under load and more roll around corners. If you like your car low it means bottoming out all the time and scrubbing the tyres

Smootharides would be good on a car at std factory height (which is much higher than most people run these days)

Genuine Moulton Smootharides are not just a branding exercise like the Paddy Hopkirk line. Alex Moulton personally developed these in the mid-2000's for the Mini. Moulton was still active in automotive suspension development in the 90's and 2000's. A number of Rover and MG products of the era had suspension features developed by Moulton's company.

Back when these were introduced, Moulton's own company produced them. I don't know if that company still exists or if Mini Sport bought the company and/or rights to the design. I'm assuming that 9 years after Moulton's passing, these are still the same product he developed.
