cheers Phil, so should I finish the build as it is check it fires up and then get.it trailered to a specialist rolling road?Something like 22-24deg maximum advance would probably be ok. But there’s so many influencing factors (fuel octane, charge temps, compression ratio etc) it would be best to get it on a rolling road to determine what’s safe.

This what you need.
Set it to 24 deg advance at 4000rpm with the vacuum advance unplugged. Then reattach the vacuum pipe. It'll retard perfectly under boost. People (I was one of them) try to be all cleaver fitting fancy ignition curve systems that in reality make sod all difference and is more to go wrong. People will spout on about having too much slack in the dizzy drive compared to a trigger wheel, but i real life driving you wont notice the difference. Perhaps on a highly tuned, high revving race engine, yes. But for normal sane people, no.

Elect dizzy for a decent spark, the vacuum advance works well when retarding. by the way - my source of this Info/guidance is Stuart Gurr. Its what he has on his own car. Works a treat.

Hey Malc,
So what was the outcome as just wrapping up on my SC install over here in Canada. Agreed with comments about advance as setting mine as per instructions from Stuart at 26 degrees. I set the initial idle at @10 degrees BDTC to get it purring nicely and planning on timing her up this week. Just curious how you went with RR as we have none of that, at least reliably, over here. Also agree with Hubba Hubba suggestion on the dizzy with advanced vacuum - it will never work properly unless you do hook it up.
