Well, it's been a bit of an emotional day, finally being reunited with my car.

I'm delighted to say that it was every bit as good as described and I still can't quite believe that it has survived absolutely intact since I last saw it in 1988.

Prior to viewing, I was realistic in my expectation of what I would find; I'd hoped for a original, well presented Mini, but what I've got is something that looks for all intents like a cherished 2 year old car.

The 50 mile drive home was a revelation; 40 bhp means the car is perhaps happiest at 40 mph and it was clearly not built for speed bumps or traffic calming, which is a clear indication of how our roads have changed in the intervening years.

It's REALLY good to have a Mini in the garage once again. I'll share images as soon as I can...

Fantastic!! What an original car...it's great to see an unmolested example.

Can I ask....any chance you could take measurements of the position of the MINI badge on the boot lid?! I am awaiting the repaint of my boot lid and have bought a badge ready, but would love to get it on in the correct position ☺️☺️☺️

Hi Cooperd70 - my badge is centred exactly between the boot handle and the number plate light, so is located 2 inches below the boot handle.

Hope that helps!

Hi Wingnut, that's very kind of you to say - it's survived so intact as it's covered a very low mileage in the care of two elderly owners.  When I part exchanged it in February 1988, it had covered (from memory) around 8000 odd miles and in the intervening 33 years, it's only covered a further 18000 miles, all backed up by the MOT history.  It's definitely had some work underneath over the years, including a new subframe quite recently, but the bulk of it does look to be original and the interior is fantastic; just requiring a gradual and very gentle clean to the fabric and headlining.

I'm going to focus on its long term preservation, so moving forward it'll only be getting very light but regular local use and certainly won't ever be out in the rain!

It really deserves a gentle, cherished time from now.

Looking great. Nice to see them so original. I had (technically still do but in a very poor state in my dads garage) a 1987 City E in the same Targa red but naturally I cooperised it as a teenager, all the grey trim replaced with chrome, white roof, alloys, 1275 etc. I wouldn't do it now, the benefit of 20 20 hindsight. But I probably have all the original parts, including the interior in the garage roof space which is a bit of an Aladin's cave of mini parts. Technically it could be rebuilt to standard if I ever had the desire or time or money to do so.

That looks amazing! Great story that goes along with it as well.

Looking forward to more updates.
