Hi folks,

Having just fitted some SPI seats into my mini I’ve discovered they are hellishly uncomfortable as they are too close to the door and I can’t push them back as much as I need due to them hitting the rear bins.  I considered modifying the rear bins but thought I’d ask you guys and gals if you had an recommendations for seats that clear the rear bins to get maximum recline and leg room?!

I look forward to reading your suggestions, thanks in advance!

Wood & Picket coach built Minis used to offer customers the option of cutting back the rear bins to give more clearance for those that required the seats further back.

I have fitted Recaro seats to my Mini (as fitted to some sports versions of Ford Cars in the past), they clear the rear bins ok even when fully reclined but I don't actually need the seats that far back for my best driving position.

I’ve just got some Cobra Monte Carlo seats for my mini, there is plenty of clearance between the seat and the rear bin.

HI,

I am 192cm-s and pretty "wide", and I had the same problem. A friend of mine has cut the rear bin's top edge, straigt (cut the front the same height as the back of the bin), and that is enough and pretty confortable. I will cut it as well, but until I can make it, I added 4 washers to both sides to push the drivers seat to the center of the Mini, and that is enough for me.

I've done the same as Gabor with my Mpi seats, if you mount the front leg inboard of the bracket and insert washers into the bracket itself, you gain a small amount pushing the rear leg against the tunnel. I then added a small amount of packing under the outside rear leg (under the carpet) having the effect of tilting the seat inwards slightly, not enough to notice when sat in it, but it does give a little extra space at the companion bins. Other than replacing the seats it's a case of incremental gains but it's surprising the extra you can achieve.

I achieved that by drilling a hole between the rear locating hole and the centre hole on the bracket and put the locating bolt through that as above you don't notice it's slightly skew.

Great suggestions all thanks! I’ll try pushing them into the center before lobbing out the seats! Cheers!!

I have Puma seats in my 89. Best I've come across for the mini so far. Very good for long journey.
