Have acquired, on eBay, a classic mini.

Problem is the V5 supplied, and VIN plate, and Registration plates, all match for 1968 car.
Problem is body, which has no VIN, is probably 1974

Any suggestions?

Regards

Lyn Arnold

It is possibly misrepresented,it could have been reshelled legally eons ago(or last week not so legally)Try for your money back?report it and possibly face an inspection and some possible grief?Keep quiet?Either the V5 or the car could be someone elses?Only you know the answer.Helpful?probably not but these are some realities,Steve..

Hi

Do you mean Commission Plate as 1968 Mini would have Commission Plate, these were used up to 1979, thereafter VIN Plate was used, 1980-1984 located on left hand fitch in front of radiator, after 1984 located on right hand fitch near bonnet prop locating bracket. Don't know if this helps.

VIN/Chassis plates were fitted to ALL Minis alongside Commission plates from 1967-1980.

Commission Plate: "This was fitted to cars 1967-1980 in addition to the chassis plate as an extra way of identifying model and detail changes. It is not a vital part of the identity for legal purposes, and no records exist of the numbers with the original manufacturers"

i'd be curious to know what makes you think the shell might be a '74

A 1974 Mini body will not have a VIN stamped into the shell, it would only have had a riveted on Chassis Plate from the factory. Bodyshells were only stamped with the number in addition to the plate from around 1980 therefore it is difficult to trace the history of early shells and many were swapped over the years, as said above for different reasons both legally many years ago and not so legally more recently. More details/photos of the Mini are needed if the discrepancies you have found bother you and you want further advice.
