Ah, heard about this a bit too late...mowed it yesterday!
Don't mind doing the lawn, headphones on and a nice walk following the mower.

I have been leaving a large rectangular patch in the middle of the back garden for the last four years in the spring and summer months.

It`s great to sit and watch the bee`s and butterfly`s do their thing. When it gets to about 10"  high I knock a couple of inches off with the strimmer.

When I finally mow it it does look a bit patchy but after a couple of weeks it`s back to normal.

I would love to leave my little bit of lawn to grow, however when i have done so previously the local cats seem to think that its ideal to use as a toilet.

 

Any tips for deterring cats would be welcomed

Ive created a wildflower patch this year, not seeing the results yet but itlll come good.

Yes leaving at least a patch of meadow is a really great idea. 

My mini was left standing outside for several years. During that time the car itself became a habitat for several species!

I would love to leave my little bit of lawn to grow, however when i have done so previously the local cats seem to think that its ideal to use as a toilet.

 

Any tips for deterring cats would be welcomed

Chickens in the back garden do the trick, they are like velociraptor's and form a circle around cats scaring them away.

The downside is they **** more than cats !!

The dog was scared of our chickens when we had them, specifically one chicken, she was a mean mother feather!

....if i butchered the Bluebells growing through the grass 'er indoors' would set about my undergrowth with a strimmer.

I have a 19 year old cat who comes back inside from the garden through his cat flap and then uses his indoor litter tray, which was really for use at night when he is shut in.

 

If you want to deter cats they don't usually like getting wet so a water pistol is a harmless way to scare them off or you can buy Motion-activated Jet-Spray devices which do the same :-

Meanwhile, across the pond... I mowed this area about 3 or 4 days ago. We had some rain and these guys showed up. They see you and come straight at you expecting food. I offered them some bread crumbs but they did not like it. I am afraid that I will get bad reviews....

 

 

Get dedicated duck food not bread and theyll eat it out of your hand.

Well i live in the north east of Scotland and well ..... it is snowing...

No chance i will be mowing..

Summer sun arrives on a wednesday in July... but only for a couple of minutes....

Then normality will resume.....
