The other hose connection on the float chamber is for overflow. Take a hose off of it and run over the transfer case and down.

I believe it is normal for the inner cylinders to run richer so is probably fine.

Didn't you say you flushed the rad and it seemed fine?

It does sound like a blockage possibly though.

Might be worth sticking a hand in the heater box inlet beside the clutch pedal and try turning the plastic barrel fan to see if it's caught up.

Cheers

Ben

Thanks Ben,

I wonder if the bottom hose is blocked, it's the replacement that I bought before taking it off the road several years ago, I reused it as it seemed supple and hadn't perished at all, but could be blocked by all manner of things! I think I'm going to have to strip the cooling system down and check it all.

I hadn't thought about accessing the fan from the side. I'll get in there and check it tomorrow evening.

Greg

Hmm,

I've now got the water pump off, and this still looks fine, shaft in tact, no major corrosion etc. Anything in particular I should be looking out for?

I've flushed the engine, radiator and heater system through and everything looks clean as anything and flows really easily.

Checked the thermostat again and this opens fine.

I'll be removing the head tomorrow as i need to inspect the mating surfaces and replace the gasket for a higher quality one (seemed to be weeping from between the top and bottom faces of the gasket). When I do this I'll check the waterways in the head too.

Heater fan moves freely. Now I've drained down the system I'll remove it and check it from a secondary supply to find out where the problem lies.

I'll get it all back together and see how i get on.

Greg

Finally, another update from the project!

We now have a lovely boy in our lives so progress has been slow but today, a friend and I managed to get the Optimise Automotive headlining in and it looks amazing. Such a great material to work with (their brushed nylon option).

I will be fitting the A, B and C post trims this week in the evenings. Then I can finally get it watertight with the rear quarters and front and rear screen.

Has anyone fitted these trims before? Did you fold the top edge over to give it a nice finish?

Sorry for the bad photos.

We used a pair of thin, flexible rules in combination with the bulldog clips to pout an even pressure on the stuck edges. It work really perfectly!

Another few hours on it this evening saw the c-pillar and under screen trim glued in place and the rear screen fitted. I haven't yet fitted the central bead to lock the screen in place. My fingers were about done for the night after wrestling with the screen. A pair of plastic bike tyre levers were very handy.

I assume that the ripple in the rubber inside will reduce once the filler strip is in?

I also noticed that I folded the lower flap on the c-pillar trims under when I should have folded them out and stuck them down, I'll see if I can amend this tomorrow evening.

Thanks for the comments and thanks Ben.

I’m really pleased with the trim level on the headlining. Top quality products from Optimise.

Tonight, it is too cold to fit the filler strips, it just started to rip the rubber (2.5 degrees)

Some more work done today.

A and B pillar trim fitted and trimmed down and rear windows fitted.

The front screen is also in, it put up a hell of a fight compared to the rear screen!

Just need some warmer days to fit the filler strip.

Next I have to remove the head to replace the gasket and manifold. Then I can get the bonnet on and give it a good wash. It really needs it.

liking the idea of using rulers, how did you fold the pillar trim? I tried but made a complete hash

They worked really well
I had to cut reliefs slots in the curves as there simply wasn’t enough stretch in the material to clip them in one piece. Once you’ve trimmed off the excess you would never know.

The b pillars needed the most relief for clipping in place.

Small update tonight. I managed to get both filler strips in. Thats one hell of a work out!

I've also removed the cylinder head as I'm replacing the exhaust manifold and the gasket. Once these are back on I'll be able to reassemble the cooling system and get it running again.

Then its a small brake fluid leak to fix and on with the wiring and interior!

Should be running ready for an MOT this spring all being well!

Did you have the tool to do the strip? Bringing back memories of doing my one without the tool in Australia, I couldn't blame the cold weather 😂😂

I did, borrowed from a friend.
Not sure how on earth you would do it without!
The slightly warmer weather did help, and bucket loads of window cleaner as lubricant.
