Dash Rail Gap Dimensions And Window Aperture

No problem gaspen! Really appreciate the help!
It should get me close enough even with the windscreen in. Just need it from the panel where the sun visors are bolted to the roof to the dash rail top

 

Here we go :

 

Measured outside at the outer edge of the rubber : 425mm

(The bodywork catalog suggest 435 mm here but the windscreen still fits  :lol: )

Hi all

Apologies if this is already been said 100 times but I can't find this anywhere.

Does anyone have the dimensions for between the upper and lower dash rails at both ends and the middle?

Also for the windscreen aperture gap (414.5mm or near), is that from the lips or the top of dash to the bit behind the window lip at the top?

I'm having difficulty fitting my window and have a feeling the upper dash rail is out.

Should the windscreen rubber fit flush to the tip of the upper dash rail or should there be a gap?

Maybe this drawing help a little.

 

I think 414.5 is good if you measure beetween the edges. On my car there is a small gap at the upper dash rail, approx. 5mm

 

Are you trying to fit the same windscreen back to the car or want to fit a new one ? Was there any bodywork on the front ?

 

I installed my glass some weeks ago and it was pretty hard to stretch the rubber, especially in the last corner.

I was trying to fit the original screen however it cracked last night.
The car has had body work done to the front including the scuttle. However I measured before and made sure these measurements were correct when welding. Although it seems the measurement I had wasn't near the 414.5mm, which makes me suspect the scuttle I replaced wasn't original.

Even if the scuttle is Heritage you need to be wary about the corner radius’s.

I checked on my clubby before and after a found a small discrepancy that could have made things interesting. This was linished back so hopefully come the windscreen install I shall be good to go.

It’s as couple of mm and this was the mating flange to dash rail. Never assume that Heritage is as per the factory dimensions. Presses and former are getting older and worn. Measure twice, weld once.

That is why I braced the windscreen aperture, but it's too late for you...

 

Please note that the measurements on my drawing is NOT from edge-to-edge !

 

Isn't there another Mini in your area to check the measurements ? As I remember the height of the glass is ~395 mm, so it should fit into that aperture together with the rubber.

Fitting the window in the aperture without the rubber, there looks to be plenty of room it was just getting the last two corners in. I still have the ability to move the dash rail if I have to. I did brace the lower dash rail thankfully but would still like to check the dims.
No other mini I know of in my area

Exactly as for me. It was my first windscreen install and I struggled with it, especially in the corners. 

 

Do you have a tool ? Did you install the rubber to the aperture first, then the glass ?

 

I made a tool by myself, similar to this on the picture. With this tool I could stretch the rubber to the edge of the glass. Be aware not to touch the glass with the tool.

 

In my case the glass slided to one side, out from the rubber. You should push it back with your palmar to help the fitting on the other side.

I've seen it mentioned before that on a Mini you fit the seal first and then pop the glass in which goes against everything I was taught which is to fit the seal to the glass and use the string method of install.
Which is correct ?

I don't have a tool but will have a look for one looks like a great idea.

I've just trial fitted the dash and finding that the demister vents aren't fitting in the right position. I assume these are supposed to slide under the seal.
It looks to me like the dash rail is too high, this would push the rubber up too so could be leading to all the issues.

Must note that when I measured the aperture the bulkhead part was sticking up the highest so I don't think the issue is with the aperture but more likely the dash rail behind

Sorry Vanman 20 missed this earlier.
When I have done this in the past I have used a cord but put the rear window in by hand the other night. Front window is causing a prob as I have a new front end on now

If possible can anyone confirm the distance between the top dash rail (before the lip) and the roof (where the sun visors are mounted)?

If I can confirm this it will help me determine if the top dash rail is in the correct position
