Connecting Modern Head Set To 89 Mini

Hi

i've got an old goodmans cassette in my mini thats wired to a permanent live, and grounded to body. I want to replace it with a more modern head unit.

What sort of connector do I need  ?

Can I just identify the power ,speakers, earth etc on the existing connector and butcher them to make my own harness, or is there a ready made one you ?

butcher/sensitively integrated - two sides of the same coin !

Basically I suppose i'm wondering if any modern type of stereo  can be easily persuaded to fit ? Or is the re certain types I need to avoid ?

Having removed a "modern" Kenwood and fitted a period appropriate Mini-branded radio-cassette to my '98 Mini, my comment would be to avoid anything with lots of small buttons, even the slightly larger up and down volume buttons were a pain with the Kenwood due to the Mini's bouncy suspension!

 I have a 'modern' Kenwood in my '77.  Are you putting yours in the middle of the dash?  If so I'd advise for a mechless system (no CD) as they are shallower and allow for soundproofing on the firewall. 

Most have more than one live so they can retain some settings in memory when powered down. Wouldn't know what the existing connector is likely to be, but there are converter "pigtails" available between ISO 'n all sorts of head units.

 

Tying knots 'n choccy blocks have done me fine
