Hello,
I recently drove our mini mpi Cooper sport which was dormant for 8 years, after a fresh service I drove it shorty and noticed the temperature level goes over 100c. The cooling fan does not work when the car is running only when I turn it off, I presume the issue is a stuck thermostat ?
Ordered the following :
88c thermostat I believe this is the correct one from factory ?

88° is correct for an MPi.
How do you know it's going to 100°C? could the problem be the gauge?
The fan should come on at 105°C, when engine is running.
If it isn't coming on, it would appear that your car is not overheating.
When was the coolant last flushed/changed?

So after a run and keep the engine running, the fan isn't cutting in and out, yet as soon as you turn the igntion off it starts? That makes no sense.

Mine often kicks in, for a short while, in summer as I switch off, having put it back in the garage after a run.
Does it run for long?
If the water pump is working well, the water circulation will keep the temperature below trigger temp.
Once it's stopped the heat soak stays by the sensor.

Replaced the thermostat with a newer unit and the car is performing well.
