Motorola 184 push button radio - crackles come out of the speaker, but no station reception. Before I give up on it, is there anything obvious to look at? There is a little T sort of symbol below a hole on the facia - would that be a reset button or something - it's not obvious what it is. Ta

Hi Richard,

That's little "T" symbol is the aerial tuning trimmer pot. Back in the day you could improve reception on weaker stations to improve volume and clarity.

If you have sound output, it might be that the waveband selection button contacts are dirty or the volume and tuning controls are in a similar condition.

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks Steve. I'll give cleaning connections a go - it sat idle for over 20 years - that might explain it. If I do get it to work how do you actually use the aerial tuning thing - stick a pin in it or something - there is nothing obvious to turn or fiddle with?

Ta Richard

There may be a tiny slot head pot behind the hole.Pick a weak medium wave station and adjust slowly until best reception is achieved(or so I remember)Steve..

Hi Richard,

As Steve above stated,  tune to a weak station and you'll need a very small screwdriver to turn the slotted head of the pot. I used to use a jewellers screwdriver which fitted nicely. Adjust until the volume and clarity are best.

Cheers, Steve.
