Yesterday I took head off my mini, i didnt know alot about the engine whenI put it in my car, was just confused.
Its an A+engine, from an d reg city, I can't get to the car to read the number but I remember it starts 99h which I pretty sure is A+ 998.
Whats confusing is that it has verto clutch, pre engaged starter, has a cam4810 head but also dished pistons in it
It also has a realy short final drive with 70mph being 4300 rpm.
Oh and the tops of the valves are different to all other 998s ive seen.
ill see if i can upload some pictures of it later.
What is it? or is it just a mismatch of parts to make one engine?

Will sounds fairly normal to me...
probably a 998 out of a metro a 3.6 final drive eg: engine number 99HA64*

Oh ok, its just ive never seen dished pistons in a 998 before,
also ive had a 85 engine and another d reg engine and they both had verto gear i em,
why does this have pre verto?

who said anything about a Diaphragm clutch, however many early A+ has Diaphragm clutches rather than the Verto... but not with a pre-engaged stater, it would have had an inertia starter, in fact there are verto clutches which also run an inertia starter.

Sorry my mistake, it is a pre verto clutch, well it has a pre verto clutch cylinder, which is why it confused me with the pre engaged starter.
