Well it's time to present my project.

I have a '82 998 mini who was fully restored six years ago. the car was almost original with a few simple modifications.
i fit a maniflow 1.75" side exit lcb twin Su Hs2 with ram pipes,a simple polish 12g202 double springs and a 45D aldon red, lumenition coil and silicone 8mm leads and a ngk B9EG
spark plugs, and it rev until 6200rpm.

now i'm start building a fast road 998 and i'm looking for "some more power".

the "spec" will be someting like this:

-Close ratio gearbox (3.44 or 3.76 FD not decide yet)
-S/C drop gears --------------- I've fond ones here in Portugal...lucky i guess
-A block with cut out's to fit a 12g940 33/29
-A+ flat top +0.40 press fit (Was 998 Std press fit pistons?
-A+ press fit conrod ligthened and polished (575g)
-A series crankshaft
-Lightened Vernier
-45D Aldon Red
-Weber DCOE 40
-Maniflow 1.75" side exit exhaust system
-Maniflow Lcb
-Lightened flywheel and pressure plate
-Orange Clutch Diaphragm
-Uprated clutch plate
-Kent cam 295 scatter patern
-Kent cam ligthened follower set
-Facet Fast road fuel pump Kit
-Facet fuel pressure regulator
-.............
-.............
-.............

now some pic's

Nice existing spec, you look like you're handy with a grinder too!

I wouldnt use a 295 scatter on a 998 mate, the highest duration cam you want in a 998 is a 276, dont forget a lower duration cam in a 1275 may be more lumpy in a 998, but thumbs up with the build my 998 is quite well tuned with 70bhp.

Hi

thanks for the advice! i have a friend who built up a 998 like the spec of my engine but with a 286 kent cam and that small bore runs like the "beep-beep"
that car is a really road runner and in most cases can ashamed a 1300 lightly tuned!and he told me,if i were you i put that 295.now i'm confused.

once again thanks for the advice!

Cheers

A 295 scatter will make bags of power mate no question, but with the expense of driveability, by this I mean your power band will be very limited and high up the rev range. This means that your 998 will be very unresponsive until you hit about 4k by which time you only have 1.5k to play with before you have to change gear. The advantage of a metro cam, sw5 cam and 276 cam is that they are roughly the sort of duration that gives a good ammount of lift and power in a 998 that is very useable round town and with a much greater power band and a desirable straight torque curve if this makes sense.

i only go to tihs type of cams because the mini is not my daily car,i use it only for 2/3 days/week.just to take a ride with my friends at night or trackday's or a sunday morning to take a coffe and take a hill climb etc etc, its the car who takes my stress away, press the "go pedal" and...catch the 998...if you can...
